What happens next

From first message to a working door

The same four steps whether you need one accessible door operator or a full entrance with a draught lobby.

  1. Tell us about the door

Send the postcode, a photo of the doorway if you have one and what the door needs to do. The guide price tool gives a range straight away.

  2. Free site survey

An engineer measures the opening, checks the structure, power, floor and traffic, and talks through options and any accessibility or escape route needs.

  3. Fixed written quote

You receive an itemised quote with the door specification, safety devices, lead time and warranty terms. Nothing starts until you accept it.

  4. Install, test and hand over

The door is fitted, set up, safety-tested and handed over with the paperwork, user guidance and a recommended service interval.

How it works in detail →

Accessible entrances

Doors that open for everyone

A heavy door is a barrier for wheelchair users, people with walking aids, parents with buggies and anyone carrying something. A low-energy operator with a push pad, or a sliding door that opens on approach, removes it.

Service providers and employers have duties to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people. An automatic door is one of the most common ways to meet them at an entrance. See accessibility law and automatic doors.

  • Low-energy swing operators fitted to most existing doors.
  • Push pads, radio buttons and touch-free switches placed where a wheelchair user can reach them.
  • Home door openers for front, back and internal doors.

Questions

Automatic doors: common questions

How much does an automatic door cost?

A new automatic sliding door for a typical shop or office entrance is usually the biggest single cost; automating an existing swing door is usually the smallest. Guide prices for every door type are on our price guide, and the guide price tool gives a range for your opening in under a minute. A free site survey and a fixed written quote confirm the price.

Can you make my existing door automatic?

Often, yes. A sound swing door can usually take a swing door operator, and some sliding doors can take a new sliding operator. The survey checks the door, frame, hinges, glazing and fixing points first. See automating an existing door.

Do automatic doors need servicing?

Yes. Doors at work must be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance, although no law sets a fixed interval. We recommend a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, more often for busy doors, with simple regular checks by site staff in between. See how often to service an automatic door.

What happens to an automatic door in a power cut?

It depends on the door. Workplace law expects powered doors to open by hand when needed for safety unless they open automatically if the power fails, and doors on escape routes are set up to fail safely or break out. We check how your door behaves and explain it at handover. See power cuts and fire alarms.

Is the site survey really free?

Yes, for new doors, operator replacements, refurbishments, upgrades and home door openers. Repairs, servicing and safety inspections are paid visits, and we agree the price in writing before an engineer attends.

Which areas do you cover?

England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Island addresses are covered by arrangement: the survey is still free, travel for an installation is a separate line in the quote, and for repairs and servicing travel is included in the agreed visit price. Find your county on the areas page.
