Revolving doors in Lancashire

A revolving door in Lancashire works best when the accessible pass door beside it is planned at the same time. Specialist automatic door engineers working under our management survey, install and commission both, with automatic doors set up with reference to BS EN 16005.

Coverage across Lancashire

Not every part of Lancashire is easy to reach, and some sites need planning around access, parking or opening hours. We take that into account when arranging revolving doors, and the engineer, working under our management, arrives with what the job is likely to need. The towns below, 21 in all, each have their own page, but any address in the area can be covered.

Towns listed in Lancashire: Preston, Burnley, Blackburn, Blackpool, Morecambe, Lancaster, Lytham St Annes, Skelmersdale, Bamber Bridge, Leyland, Accrington, Chorley, Darwen, Thornton-Cleveleys, Nelson, Fleetwood, Ormskirk, Rawtenstall, Colne, Poulton-le-Fylde, Heysham.

What to think about for revolving doors in Lancashire

  • Night security needs thought. Decide whether the wings will lock across the drum or a night shield is needed, and how the pass door and any shutters will be secured.
  • Tall buildings in Lancashire can pull a strong draught through an open entrance. A revolving door controls this better than sliding doors, which is one reason office towers use them.
  • The fire strategy decides how people will escape. Agree with your fire risk assessor where the pass door and other exits will be before the revolving door is designed.
  • Planned servicing is essential on revolving doors because wing edges, stop buttons and sensors protect people on every turn. Budget for regular visits from the start, with each visit priced in writing.
  • Revolving doors with curved glass drum walls have longer lead times. Allow for them in any refurbishment programme across Lancashire, and confirm dates before booking floor layers or shopfitters.

Standards and rules in England

Building regulations guidance treats revolving doors as not accessible on their own, so an accessible powered swing or sliding door should be provided alongside. In England, fire safety law says sliding or revolving doors must not be used for exits specifically intended as emergency exits.

In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

How it works

  1. Describe what you need. Whether the job is revolving doors for a busy entrance or for a single internal door, a brief description and some photos let us understand it and plan a survey visit in Lancashire.
  2. Free visit to the site. An engineer working under our management assesses the opening, the existing door and frame, the floor and the electrical supply, and notes any access, consent or timing issues to plan around.
  3. Your fixed quotation. The quote is fixed for the work it describes and lists each item, including any removal, making good and electrical work. It also states the lead time, the payment stages and the warranty terms.
  4. Fitting and sign-off. Work goes ahead on dates agreed with you. Once fitted, the door is adjusted and its safety functions are tested and recorded with reference to BS EN 16005, and you are shown how to use it.

Revolving doors in Lancashire: questions

Will a revolving door in Lancashire work with our fire alarm?

It can. An automatic revolving door can be linked to the fire alarm so it stops, slows or folds as the fire strategy requires, and the pass door can be set to open. Your alarm engineer usually makes the panel connection, and the quote shows who is responsible for each part.

What will revolving doors in Lancashire cost?

Our guide is £29,995 to £59,995 excluding VAT (per automatic door), the same guide prices we use across the UK. The free site survey in Lancashire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Who services a revolving door in Lancashire after installation?

We can, with each visit priced in writing before an engineer attends. Revolving doors should have their safety sensors, stop buttons and wing edges checked by a trained engineer at least once a year, and busy entrances usually need more frequent visits. Staff should also make simple daily checks and keep a record.

Can our reception in Lancashire stay open during installation?

Usually, if there is a second entrance or the pass door can be fitted first. We stage the work so the building stays secure overnight and visitors are directed clearly. Where the revolving door is the only way in, we discuss weekend or out-of-hours working, with any extra cost shown in the quote.

How are payments structured for work in Lancashire?

Payment stages are set out in the quote before you accept it. Larger or made-to-order jobs may involve a deposit and a balance on completion, while smaller jobs may be invoiced once the work is finished. Nothing is charged for the survey itself, and the terms you accept are the terms that apply.

What should I send before the survey in Lancashire?

A few photos of the door from inside and outside, rough measurements of the opening, the address and a note of how the entrance is used. If the door already has an operator, a photo of any label on it helps. With that, the engineer arrives prepared, the survey takes less of your time and we can put the quote for revolving doors together more easily.

Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in Lancashire?

In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
