Coverage across Lancashire

Not every part of Lancashire is easy to reach, and some sites need planning around access, parking or opening hours. We take that into account when arranging hermetic sliding doors, and the engineer, working under our management, arrives with what the job is likely to need. The towns below, 21 in all, each have their own page, but any address in the area can be covered.

Towns listed in Lancashire: Preston, Burnley, Blackburn, Blackpool, Morecambe, Lancaster, Lytham St Annes, Skelmersdale, Bamber Bridge, Leyland, Accrington, Chorley, Darwen, Thornton-Cleveleys, Nelson, Fleetwood, Ormskirk, Rawtenstall, Colne, Poulton-le-Fylde, Heysham.

What to think about for hermetic sliding doors in Lancashire

  • Touch-free activation should suit how staff work. Foot switches suit scrubbed theatre staff, wave sensors suit corridors, and card readers suit restricted labs where only trained staff may enter.
  • The floor must be flat and continuous through the opening. Welded vinyl or resin floors should be completed or repaired before the door is fitted, so the bottom seal meets a true surface.
  • Infection control rules in hospitals across Lancashire usually require screening, dust control and permits for work in clinical areas. Share your procedures at survey so they are built into the programme.
  • Power, building management and fire alarm links need planning with your electrical contractor. Cable routes into sealed cleanroom ceilings must be agreed early, before the panels are sealed.
  • Theatre doors in Lancashire can usually only be replaced during a planned shutdown. Agree the dates with the theatre team early, as the door is made to order and the room needs cleaning and validation after installation.

Standards and rules in England

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them.

In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

Glass in and beside doors must be safety glass or protected where people could walk into it, and clear glass needs markings in two bands, 850 mm to 1000 mm and 1400 mm to 1600 mm above the floor (Approved Document K).

How it works

  1. Get in touch. Call, email or use the form with the address and what you have in mind. If you are not sure which type of door suits, describe the entrance and we will suggest the options worth considering.
  2. Survey and advice. The survey costs nothing and carries no obligation. The engineer checks the site and explains which options suit the entrance, the people using it and the budget, before anything is priced.
  3. Quote in writing. You receive a fixed, itemised quote for hermetic sliding doors in Lancashire, covering equipment, installation, testing and handover, with the lead time and payment stages set out clearly.
  4. Install, test, explain. The engineer installs and commissions the door, tests the sensors, safety functions and emergency behaviour, and walks you through the controls. The handover pack records what was installed and tested.

Hermetic sliding doors in Lancashire: questions

Will the hermetic door in Lancashire link to our building management system?

It can. The operator can send door status to the building management system and receive signals from it, as well as from the fire alarm and access control. The interface is agreed with your controls contractor and shown in the quote, so responsibilities are clear.

Can you give me a price for hermetic sliding doors in Lancashire?

Our guide starts from £8,995 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Lancashire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Is the survey for a hermetic door in Lancashire free?

Yes, for a new hermetic door the survey is free and there is no obligation. We measure the opening, check the wall and floor, discuss seals, finishes, activation and interlocks with your team, then send drawings and a fixed, itemised written quote.

Who maintains hermetic doors in Lancashire once fitted?

We can, through planned servicing with each visit priced in writing before an engineer attends. Seals, sensors and interlocks need regular checks, and a trained engineer should test the safety functions at least once a year. Many theatres and cleanrooms schedule more frequent checks as part of their own maintenance programme.

What should I send before the survey in Lancashire?

A few photos of the door from inside and outside, rough measurements of the opening, the address and a note of how the entrance is used. If the door already has an operator, a photo of any label on it helps. With that, the engineer arrives prepared, the survey takes less of your time and we can put the quote for hermetic sliding doors together more easily.

What is the lead time for hermetic sliding doors in Lancashire?

Lead times depend on the door type and what has to be made to order. As a guide, operators and accessible door kits are typically two to four weeks from order, and complete sliding entrances typically four to eight weeks from drawing approval. Curved, revolving and hermetic doors usually take longer. The expected lead time is stated in your quote.

Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in Lancashire?

In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
