Coverage across Cumbria

Not every part of Cumbria is easy to reach, and some sites need planning around access, parking or opening hours. We take that into account when arranging revolving doors, and the engineer, working under our management, arrives with what the job is likely to need. The towns below, 5 in all, each have their own page, but any address in the area can be covered.

Towns listed in Cumbria: Carlisle, Barrow-in-Furness, Kendal, Whitehaven, Workington.

What to think about for revolving doors in Cumbria

  • Revolving doors with curved glass drum walls have longer lead times. Allow for them in any refurbishment programme across Cumbria, and confirm dates before booking floor layers or shopfitters.
  • Some visitors to buildings in Cumbria find revolving doors hard to use. A slow-speed button, clear signs and staff who can direct people to the pass door all help.
  • Automatic revolving doors need power to the canopy and links to the fire alarm and access control. Plan cable routes before ceilings are closed in.
  • A revolving door needs a flat, level floor and often a recess for the bottom bearing and mat. Check whether the existing slab can be cut, or whether the floor needs building up.
  • Planned servicing is essential on revolving doors because wing edges, stop buttons and sensors protect people on every turn. Budget for regular visits from the start, with each visit priced in writing.

Standards and rules in England

Building regulations guidance treats revolving doors as not accessible on their own, so an accessible powered swing or sliding door should be provided alongside. In England, fire safety law says sliding or revolving doors must not be used for exits specifically intended as emergency exits.

In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

How it works

  1. Send photos and the address. A few pictures of the door from both sides, the address in Cumbria and a note of who uses the entrance help us understand the job before anyone visits the site.
  2. No-cost survey on site. We arrange a survey at a time that suits the building. The engineer records measurements, fixings and power, plus any constraints such as listed status, opening hours or access for deliveries.
  3. Itemised quote to approve. We price every element of the work on revolving doors separately in a written quote that you can check, share and approve. Lead time and payment stages are stated, and nothing is ordered until you accept.
  4. Fit, test and hand over. On the agreed dates the engineer installs the equipment, commissions the operator and tests each safety function. You get a demonstration, the test record and any conformity paperwork that applies to the work.

Send photos and any drawings of the entrance in Cumbria, and we will come back with options for a revolving door and an accessible pass door.

Revolving doors in Cumbria: questions

Is the survey for a revolving door in Cumbria free?

Yes. For a new revolving door and pass door, the survey costs nothing and carries no obligation. We look at the space, structure, floor, traffic and fire strategy, then send drawings and a fixed, itemised written quote. Each item is listed separately, which makes it easy to compare with other quotes.

What do you charge for revolving doors in Cumbria?

Our guide is £29,995 to £59,995 excluding VAT (per automatic door), the same guide prices we use across the UK. The free site survey in Cumbria confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Will a revolving door in Cumbria work with our fire alarm?

It can. An automatic revolving door can be linked to the fire alarm so it stops, slows or folds as the fire strategy requires, and the pass door can be set to open. Your alarm engineer usually makes the panel connection, and the quote shows who is responsible for each part.

How long does a revolving door project in Cumbria take?

Revolving doors are typically 8 to 14 weeks from order, once drawings are approved. On site, an automatic revolving door usually takes several days, covering floor preparation, drum and canopy, wings, drive and commissioning. We agree the programme with you and plan how visitors will get in while the work is done.

What does the written quote for revolving doors in Cumbria include?

The quote lists each item separately: the door or equipment, installation, electrical connections where we provide them, removal of anything being replaced, testing and handover. It is a fixed price for the work described, so it does not change unless the scope changes, and any change is agreed with you in writing first.

What should I send before the survey in Cumbria?

A few photos of the door from inside and outside, rough measurements of the opening, the address and a note of how the entrance is used. If the door already has an operator, a photo of any label on it helps. With that, the engineer arrives prepared, the survey takes less of your time and we can put the quote for revolving doors together more easily.

Do businesses in Cumbria have to fit automatic doors?

No law says every building must have automatic doors. Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and building regulations guidance in England calls for a powered door where an entrance door would otherwise be too heavy to open. An automatic door is often the simplest way to meet both.
