Coverage across Hampshire

Booking curved automatic doors in Hampshire does not depend on being close to a particular town. Engineers working under our management travel throughout the area, and nothing goes ahead until the price has been agreed in writing. What to think about for curved automatic doors in Hampshire

  • A half-round door often projects beyond the existing building line. In town centres around Hampshire, check early whether that affects the pavement, the highway boundary or the need for planning permission.
  • Consider a spare curved panel for busy entrances in Hampshire. It costs more at the start, but a broken leaf can then be replaced without waiting for new glass to be bent.
  • Curved entrances in Hampshire are often installed during a wider refurbishment. Working with the main contractor on dates, power and protection of the finished floor helps the door go in once, without return visits.
  • If the entrance is on an escape route, the fire strategy decides how the door must behave when the alarm sounds or the power fails. Confirm this with your fire risk assessor before the design is fixed.
  • Curved glass cannot be cut to size on site. Allow for the longer lead time in any refurbishment programme, and do not book shopfitters or floor layers for the entrance until the door has a delivery date.

Standards and rules in England

Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. New entrances and some alterations count as building work, so check with building control before the work is ordered.

How it works

  1. Send photos and the address. A few pictures of the door from both sides, the address in Hampshire and a note of who uses the entrance help us understand the job before anyone visits the site.
  2. No-cost survey on site. We arrange a survey at a time that suits the building. The engineer records measurements, fixings and power, plus any constraints such as listed status, opening hours or access for deliveries.
  3. Itemised quote to approve. We price every element of the work on curved automatic doors separately in a written quote that you can check, share and approve. Lead time and payment stages are stated, and nothing is ordered until you accept.
  4. Fit, test and hand over. On the agreed dates the engineer installs the equipment, commissions the operator and tests each safety function. You get a demonstration, the test record and any conformity paperwork that applies to the work.

Curved automatic doors in Hampshire: questions

Will we need planning permission for a curved entrance in Hampshire?

Possibly. A curved door that changes the look of the frontage or projects beyond the building line may need planning permission, and listed buildings may need listed building consent. Your local planning authority decides. We raise the question at survey and can supply drawings and product details for an application.

How much should I budget for curved automatic doors in Hampshire?

Our guide starts from £14,995 excluding VAT (per entrance), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Hampshire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

How long does a curved door project in Hampshire take?

Curved doors are typically 8 to 14 weeks from order once the drawings are approved, because the glass and frame are made to your radius. Installation then usually takes two to four days for a half-round door, and longer for a full-round door with a roof. The quote sets out the expected programme for your building.

Can the curved door in Hampshire be installed while we stay open?

Often, yes, for a half-round replacement, with the opening secured overnight and the work planned around quieter hours. A full-round door with a new roof usually needs the entrance closed for longer, so a second entrance is helpful. We agree the arrangements with you before the date is fixed.

What should I send before the survey in Hampshire?

A few photos of the door from inside and outside, rough measurements of the opening, the address and a note of how the entrance is used. If the door already has an operator, a photo of any label on it helps. With that, the engineer arrives prepared, the survey takes less of your time and we can put the quote for curved automatic doors together more easily.

Do I need permission from a landlord or the council before work in Hampshire?

It depends on the building. Tenants usually need the landlord's written consent before changing an entrance, and some changes to a shopfront or external door need planning permission. The survey notes anything that may need consent. We can supply drawings and product details to support an application, but the owner or tenant makes it.

Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in Hampshire?

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person for the premises must make sure escape routes work and fire safety equipment is maintained. Automatic doors on an escape route need fail-safe opening or break-out, set by the fire strategy.
