What to think about for curved automatic doors in Wiltshire
- Curved glass cannot be cut to size on site. Allow for the longer lead time in any refurbishment programme, and do not book shopfitters or floor layers for the entrance until the door has a delivery date.
- Curved doors on landmark buildings in Wiltshire are often lit at night. Plan canopy lighting, signage and any warm air curtain alongside the door, so cables and fixings are in place before the glass goes in.
- Busy entrances with curved floor guides collect grit from the street. A good matwell and regular cleaning of the guide channels keep the leaves running smoothly around the arc.
- Consider a spare curved panel for busy entrances in Wiltshire. It costs more at the start, but a broken leaf can then be replaced without waiting for new glass to be bent.
- The floor must be level across the whole arc, and the matwell and floor finish need cutting to the same radius as the guides. Coordinate the floor layer with the door programme so the curves match.

Standards and rules in England
Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.
In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.
Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. New entrances and some alterations count as building work, so check with building control before the work is ordered.
How it works
- Describe what you need. Whether the job is curved automatic doors for a busy entrance or for a single internal door, a brief description and some photos let us understand it and plan a survey visit in Wiltshire.
- Free visit to the site. An engineer working under our management assesses the opening, the existing door and frame, the floor and the electrical supply, and notes any access, consent or timing issues to plan around.
- Your fixed quotation. The quote is fixed for the work it describes and lists each item, including any removal, making good and electrical work. It also states the lead time, the payment stages and the warranty terms.
- Fitting and sign-off. Work goes ahead on dates agreed with you. Once fitted, the door is adjusted and its safety functions are tested and recorded with reference to BS EN 16005, and you are shown how to use it.
Send us photos of the frontage in Wiltshire and any drawings you have, and we will arrange a free survey for a curved automatic entrance.
Curved automatic doors in Wiltshire: questions
Can a curved door in Wiltshire replace a revolving door?
In many cases, yes. A full-round curved door gives similar draught protection with a straight, open path through, which many visitors find easier than a revolving door. The survey checks whether the existing drum position, floor recess and canopy can be reused or need altering.
How are prices worked out for curved automatic doors in Wiltshire?
Our guide starts from £14,995 excluding VAT (per entrance), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Wiltshire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Who looks after a curved door in Wiltshire once it is fitted?
You can arrange servicing with us, with each visit priced in writing beforehand. Curved doors need regular attention to the floor guides and carriages that follow the arc. A trained engineer should check the safety functions at least once a year, and busy hotel or store entrances are usually serviced more often.
Can you work with our architect or main contractor in Wiltshire?
Yes. Many curved doors are part of a larger refurbishment or new build. We can work from the architect's setting-out drawings, agree the structural opening, canopy and floor details with the contractor, and fit the door at the right stage of the programme so finished floors and glazing are protected.
What happens to the old door when a new one is fitted in Wiltshire?
If the work replaces an existing door, frame or operator, removal and disposal are listed in the quote. The old door comes out only when the new one is ready to go in, so the opening is not left empty for longer than necessary. Making good to the surrounding wall, floor or ceiling is included where the quote says so.
What should I send before the survey in Wiltshire?
A few photos of the door from inside and outside, rough measurements of the opening, the address and a note of how the entrance is used. If the door already has an operator, a photo of any label on it helps. With that, the engineer arrives prepared, the survey takes less of your time and we can put the quote for curved automatic doors together more easily.
Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in Wiltshire?
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person for the premises must make sure escape routes work and fire safety equipment is maintained. Automatic doors on an escape route need fail-safe opening or break-out, set by the fire strategy.
