Coverage across Hampshire

Booking frameless glass automatic doors in Hampshire does not depend on being close to a particular town. Engineers working under our management travel throughout the area, and nothing goes ahead until the price has been agreed in writing. Below are the towns we list here, 23 at present, each linking to a page with nearby places and guide prices.

Towns listed in Hampshire: Southampton, Portsmouth, Basingstoke, Gosport, Waterlooville, Farnborough, Eastleigh, Winchester, Havant, Andover, Fareham, Aldershot, Fleet, Totton, Chandler's Ford, New Milton, Bordon, Hythe, Yateley, Alton, Emsworth, Hedge End, Romsey.

What to think about for frameless glass automatic doors in Hampshire

  • Floor guides need a sound floor. Where the entrance has stone, tiles or polished concrete, agree whether a channel will be cut or a small surface guide fixed, and who makes good the finish.
  • Hotels and restaurants in Hampshire often want the door to stay open on warm days and close in bad weather. A programme switch with hold-open and automatic modes makes that a simple daily choice.
  • Showrooms in Hampshire with large displays, or vehicles moving in and out, may want a wide bi-parting frameless door with a hold-open mode for deliveries.
  • The header needs a rigid fixing. In modern offices in Hampshire with suspended ceilings, the operator is usually fixed to the slab above with a steel support, which the survey designs in from the start.
  • Every edge and fitting on a frameless door is visible. Choose a top rail and clamp finish, such as satin stainless or black, that suits the rest of the ironmongery in the building.

Standards and rules in England

Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. New entrances and some alterations count as building work, so check with building control before the work is ordered.

How it works

  1. Send photos and the address. A few pictures of the door from both sides, the address in Hampshire and a note of who uses the entrance help us understand the job before anyone visits the site.
  2. No-cost survey on site. We arrange a survey at a time that suits the building. The engineer records measurements, fixings and power, plus any constraints such as listed status, opening hours or access for deliveries.
  3. Itemised quote to approve. We price every element of the work on frameless glass automatic doors separately in a written quote that you can check, share and approve. Lead time and payment stages are stated, and nothing is ordered until you accept.
  4. Fit, test and hand over. On the agreed dates the engineer installs the equipment, commissions the operator and tests each safety function. You get a demonstration, the test record and any conformity paperwork that applies to the work.

Frameless glass automatic doors in Hampshire: questions

Is the survey for a frameless door in Hampshire free?

Yes. For a new frameless automatic door, the survey is free and you are under no obligation. The engineer measures the opening, checks the structure above and the floor below, discusses glass and fittings, and you then receive a drawing and a fixed, itemised written quote.

What do you charge for frameless glass automatic doors in Hampshire?

Our guide starts from £5,495 excluding VAT (per door set), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Hampshire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Do we need building approval for a frameless door in Hampshire?

Replacing a door like for like does not always need approval, but new entrances and wider building work can. Building regulations guidance on access to buildings applies to new buildings and to building work on existing ones, and the details differ in each UK nation. Your local building control or building standards service can confirm what applies.

Can a frameless door in Hampshire be connected to our access control?

Yes. The operator can be linked to card readers, fob readers, keypads, intercoms or a timer, so the door opens freely in working hours and only for authorised people at other times. Tell us what you already have at the survey and the quote will set out the interface work.

Do you service doors in Hampshire after installing them?

Yes. We recommend a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer's instructions and how heavily the door is used; busy doors are often serviced more often. Servicing can follow on from the installation, with the price agreed in writing and a record left after every visit.

What happens to the old door when a new one is fitted in Hampshire?

If the work replaces an existing door, frame or operator, removal and disposal are listed in the quote. The old door comes out only when the new one is ready to go in, so the opening is not left empty for longer than necessary. Making good to the surrounding wall, floor or ceiling is included where the quote says so.

Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in Hampshire?

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person for the premises must make sure escape routes work and fire safety equipment is maintained. Automatic doors on an escape route need fail-safe opening or break-out, set by the fire strategy.
