Coverage across Surrey
Booking safety and compliance upgrades in Surrey does not depend on being close to a particular town. Engineers working under our management travel throughout the area, and nothing goes ahead until the price has been agreed in writing. What to think about for safety and compliance upgrades in Surrey
- Older shopfronts in Surrey often have narrow side screens with large gaps beside the sliding leaves. Light curtains or guard screens can protect them without changing the frame.
- Doors serving care homes and hospitals in Surrey may need wider safety zones and gentler closing speeds for residents and patients who move slowly or need help.
- Very old controllers may not support modern monitored sensors. In that case a new drive unit with sensors can cost less than several separate upgrades.
- Listed buildings and conservation areas in Surrey may limit visible changes. Slim sensors and discreet guards keep the look of the historic entrance largely unchanged.
- Glass doors need visible markings. Faded manifestation is one of the cheapest findings to fix, and it helps people with visual impairments see the door.

Standards and rules in England
Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible. BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them.
Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.
Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.
How it works
- Describe what you need. Whether the job is safety and compliance upgrades for a busy entrance or for a single internal door, a brief description and some photos let us understand it and plan a survey visit in Surrey.
- Free visit to the site. An engineer working under our management assesses the opening, the existing door and frame, the floor and the electrical supply, and notes any access, consent or timing issues to plan around.
- Your fixed quotation. The quote is fixed for the work it describes and lists each item, including any removal, making good and electrical work. It also states the lead time, the payment stages and the warranty terms.
- Fitting and sign-off. Work goes ahead on dates agreed with you. Once fitted, the door is adjusted and its safety functions are tested and recorded with reference to BS EN 16005, and you are shown how to use it.

Safety and compliance upgrades in Surrey: questions
Can upgrades in Surrey be phased over time?
Yes. Each item is priced separately, so you can start with the high-priority findings and plan the rest for later, often at the next service visit. Your quote shows which items are urgent and which can sensibly wait, so you can budget for each phase.
How are prices worked out for safety and compliance upgrades in Surrey?
Our guide starts from £195 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Surrey confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Is it cheaper to upgrade or replace our old door in Surrey?
Upgrading is usually cheaper when the door and operator are sound. If the operator is old and several upgrades are needed, a new drive unit with new sensors may be better value overall. The survey compares the options, and the quote can show both so you can decide.
Do you carry out automatic door safety upgrades in Surrey?
Yes. We quote and manage upgrade work in Surrey, and the fitting is done by specialist automatic door engineers on our behalf. The survey is free, and each upgrade is priced separately on a fixed, itemised quote. After the work you receive a record of each change and its test results.
How are payments structured for work in Surrey?
Payment stages are set out in the quote before you accept it. Larger or made-to-order jobs may involve a deposit and a balance on completion, while smaller jobs may be invoiced once the work is finished. Nothing is charged for the survey itself, and the terms you accept are the terms that apply.
How much disruption should we expect while the work is done in Surrey?
Most installations take one visit or a short series of visits, with dust and noise kept to the area around the door. The engineer screens off the work area, keeps a route in or out where possible and clears up before leaving. Larger entrances, lobbies or structural changes take longer, and the quote explains how that work is phased.
Do businesses in Surrey have to fit automatic doors?
No law says every building must have automatic doors. Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and building regulations guidance in England calls for a powered door where an entrance door would otherwise be too heavy to open. An automatic door is often the simplest way to meet both.
