Coverage across Cornwall

Our coverage of Cornwall is not tied to a depot or a showroom. Engineers who carry out automatic door servicing for us travel to each site, so a farm shop down a country lane goes through the same process as a city-centre office. Every job is priced in writing before work starts, and the town list below currently numbers 8.

What to think about for automatic door servicing in Cornwall

  • If several buildings share one maintenance budget, a single contract with one price per door and one set of records is easier to manage than booking visits separately.
  • Battery backup units wear out over time. Testing them at each service shows whether the door will still open or close safely in a power cut.
  • Business parks and retail parks in Cornwall may have doors owned by the landlord and doors leased with the unit. Check who is responsible for servicing each door before booking.
  • Exposed entrances collect grit, leaves and rain. Weather-facing doors benefit from extra attention to the floor guide, brush strips and sensor settings at each service.
  • Care homes and hospitals in Cornwall often need visits planned around mealtimes, medication rounds and visiting hours, so the door is not out of use at the busiest times.

No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend a safety check by a trained engineer at least once a year, and more frequent visits for busy doors. Repairs found during a service are quoted before they are done.

Standards and rules in England

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.

No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend that a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer’s instructions and how heavily the door is used, and that someone on site carries out simple regular checks and keeps a record.

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

How it works

  1. Share the details. Send the address in Cornwall, the door type and make if you know it, and a description or video of the problem. For servicing, tell us how many doors there are and how busy each one is.
  2. Price confirmed in writing. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends. Some straightforward repairs can be priced in full from photos and the make and model of the door.
  3. Diagnosis and repair. A specialist engineer attends on the agreed date, finds the cause, repairs or services the door, and tests its operation, sensors and safety functions with reference to BS EN 16005.
  4. Written record. Each visit ends with a written record for your files. Anything still outstanding, such as parts on order or recommended upgrades, is quoted before any further work is done.

Automatic door servicing in Cornwall: questions

How often should doors in Cornwall be serviced?

There is no fixed legal interval. We recommend a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with the interval set by the manufacturer's instructions and how heavily the door is used. Busy entrances, such as shops and surgeries, are often serviced every six months.

What do you charge for automatic door servicing in Cornwall?

Our guide starts from £145 excluding VAT (per visit, first door), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £174 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Cornwall, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

Can one contract cover all our buildings in Cornwall and nearby?

Yes. A contract can list every door across your sites, with the visits per year and the price for each door. One schedule and one set of service reports make it easier to keep records complete, and repair visits between services are charged at the contract rates.

Will servicing help with our insurer or landlord in Cornwall?

Many insurers and landlords ask for evidence that automatic doors are maintained. A written service report for each door, kept in a logbook or digital folder, is the usual way to show that. If they ask for a risk assessment against BS EN 16005, a safety inspection can be added.

Can you take over servicing of doors in Cornwall from another company?

Yes. Send us the door details and, if you have them, previous service records or inspection reports. The first visit gives a baseline for each door, and its price is agreed in writing beforehand. From then on, records continue in one consistent format, whichever company looked after the doors before.

How is the visit price set for work in Cornwall?

We agree the visit price with you in writing before an engineer attends. It is based on the type of door, the work requested and the location. If parts or further work are needed once the engineer has found the cause, those are quoted before they are done, so the cost never moves without your agreement.

Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in Cornwall?

In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
