Sensor upgrades and replacement in Cornwall

If the automatic door at your premises in Cornwall keeps opening for passing traffic, or stops short for no reason, the sensors are a likely cause. Send us a photo of the sensor and the door, and we will confirm the visit price in writing.

Coverage across Cornwall

Not every part of Cornwall is easy to reach, and some sites need planning around access, parking or opening hours. We take that into account when arranging sensor upgrades and replacement, and the engineer, working under our management, arrives with what the job is likely to need. The towns below, 8 in all, each have their own page, but any address in the area can be covered.

What to think about for sensor upgrades and replacement in Cornwall

  • Swing doors in narrow corridors need sensors on the leaf to protect people on both sides. The engineer checks the swing path and any walls or fittings close by.
  • Care settings in Cornwall often need longer hold-open times and wider safety zones for residents who move slowly, use walking frames or pause in the doorway.
  • Rain, snow and blowing leaves can trigger radar sensors over exposed doors. Some sensors filter weather better than others, which the engineer weighs up when choosing a replacement.
  • Entrances facing busy roads in Cornwall can see false openings from passing vehicles and cyclists. A sensor with direction detection and a tighter zone usually helps.
  • Shopping parades and older shopfronts in Cornwall sometimes have low transoms or canopies that limit where a sensor can be mounted. The engineer checks height and angle first.

Standards and rules in England

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.

No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend that a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer’s instructions and how heavily the door is used, and that someone on site carries out simple regular checks and keeps a record.

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

How it works

  1. Make contact. Phone, email or use the form. Tell us the type of door, what it is doing and whether it is safe to use, so the right visit for sensor upgrades and replacement can be planned.
  2. Written visit price. The cost of attending is agreed in writing before the visit is booked. For a planned service or inspection, the price per door and what each visit includes are set out at the same time.
  3. On-site work. The engineer, working under our management, checks the door from end to end, deals with the fault or the service, and tests every safety function and sensor setting before signing the door off.
  4. Report and quote. You receive a report of the findings. Where a repair, part or upgrade is recommended, it is quoted in writing so you can decide, and the door is left in a safe state if it cannot be used.

Ask for a price on new safety or activation sensors in Cornwall. Each one is set up for the door's hazard zones and tested before the engineer leaves.

Sensor upgrades and replacement in Cornwall: questions

Do you replace automatic door sensors in Cornwall?

Yes. Sensor replacement and upgrades in Cornwall are booked and managed by us and carried out by engineers who specialise in automatic doors. They work on sensors for sliding, swing, folding and revolving doors from most makers. The visit cost is set in writing before they attend, and each new sensor is tested before they leave.

What is the guide price for sensor upgrades and replacement in Cornwall?

Our guide is £195 to £495 excluding VAT (per sensor fitted), the same guide prices we use across the UK. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Cornwall, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

Can a risk assessment in Cornwall tell us which sensors we need?

Yes. A safety inspection tests each hazard zone and records where sensor coverage is missing or poor. The report then lists the sensors or light curtains needed, and we can quote those items exactly as listed, or you can pass the report to another competent installer.

Will new sensors stop false openings at our entrance in Cornwall?

Usually. Modern sensors can ignore cross traffic and detect only people moving towards the door, and the zone can be narrowed. If the entrance faces a busy street or catches heavy weather, the engineer may suggest a sensor that filters those conditions better.

Do you offer service contracts in Cornwall?

Yes. A service contract sets out how many visits a year each door receives, what each visit includes and the price, all agreed in writing before you sign. Contracts suit sites with several doors or busy entrances, because visits are planned ahead and the records stay in one place. Contract length and notice terms are shown in the agreement.

Which makes of automatic door can you work on in Cornwall?

Engineers working under our management work on most makes of automatic door, including sliding, swing, folding, telescopic and revolving types. Some older or obsolete operators have limited parts availability. If that applies, we explain the options, which may include a replacement drive unit on the existing frame, and quote them before anything is ordered.

Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in Cornwall?

In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
