Coverage across Dorset

Multi-site organisations in Dorset, such as councils, housing providers, schools and health providers, can arrange automatic door servicing for every building through one contact. Each site gets its own written price and its own record. Smaller customers, from corner shops to private homes, follow exactly the same process. The towns we list here, 5 in all, appear below.

What to think about for automatic door servicing in Dorset

  • Doors on busy high streets in Dorset can cycle hundreds of times a day. Heavy use wears belts, rollers and floor guides faster, so these doors usually need more frequent visits.
  • Business parks and retail parks in Dorset may have doors owned by the landlord and doors leased with the unit. Check who is responsible for servicing each door before booking.
  • If several buildings share one maintenance budget, a single contract with one price per door and one set of records is easier to manage than booking visits separately.
  • Doors on escape routes need their break-out or power-failure opening tested at every service. Tell us which doors serve escape routes so the engineer checks the right functions.
  • Keep the programme switch key and any operator access keys on site. Engineers need them to change modes and test the door properly during the visit.

No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend a safety check by a trained engineer at least once a year, and more frequent visits for busy doors. Repairs found during a service are quoted before they are done.

Standards and rules in England

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.

No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend that a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer’s instructions and how heavily the door is used, and that someone on site carries out simple regular checks and keeps a record.

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

How it works

  1. Report the fault or service. Let us know whether the door has failed, is behaving oddly or is simply due a service or safety inspection. A short video of the problem helps the engineer prepare for the visit.
  2. Agree the price first. Before anyone travels to Dorset, the visit price is set out in writing. It is based on the door type, the work requested and the location, so you know the cost in advance.
  3. Diagnose, repair, test. On site, the engineer finds the cause and puts it right where the parts are to hand, or completes the planned service. Sensors, safety functions and emergency behaviour are checked before the door returns to use.
  4. Paperwork and next steps. A written record of the visit is left with you or sent afterwards. If parts must be ordered or more work is advisable, it is quoted separately and only goes ahead once you accept.

Automatic door servicing in Dorset: questions

Can you service doors in Dorset outside opening hours?

Visits early in the morning, in the evening or at weekends can often be arranged where the building needs it, although they may be priced differently. Tell us your opening hours and busiest times when you book, and the visit price we agree will reflect the time slot.

What do you charge for automatic door servicing in Dorset?

Our guide starts from £145 excluding VAT (per visit, first door), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £174 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Dorset, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

Will servicing help with our insurer or landlord in Dorset?

Many insurers and landlords ask for evidence that automatic doors are maintained. A written service report for each door, kept in a logbook or digital folder, is the usual way to show that. If they ask for a risk assessment against BS EN 16005, a safety inspection can be added.

Do you service automatic doors in Dorset?

Yes. Planned service visits in Dorset are carried out by automatic door specialists who work under our management, with us as your contracting party. They service sliding, swing, folding and revolving doors from most makers. The cost of each visit is confirmed in writing before it is booked, and you receive a service report afterwards.

Are parts quoted before they are fitted?

Always. If a repair or service in Dorset needs parts, such as rollers, belts, sensors, a control board or a motor, we quote them in writing first. Some common parts may be on the engineer's van; others are ordered once you accept the quote and fitted on a return visit at a price already agreed.

What if a door in Dorset is found to be unsafe?

The engineer explains the problem and, where needed, leaves the door in a safe state, for example switched off or set so it cannot trap or strike anyone. You receive a written note of the issue. The repair or upgrade that would put it right is quoted before any further work is carried out.

Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in Dorset?

In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
