Coverage across Gloucestershire

Enquiries about automatic door repairs come to us from right across Gloucestershire, and each one is handled the same way. Specialist automatic door engineers working under our management travel to the address, and we remain your contracting party throughout. The 7 towns we list below are a starting point, not a boundary: villages, business parks and rural sites in between are covered as well.

Towns listed in Gloucestershire: Gloucester, Cheltenham, Stroud, Kingswood, Yate, Tewkesbury, Cirencester.

What to think about for automatic door repairs in Gloucestershire

  • For surgeries, clinics and care settings in Gloucestershire, a door that will not open can stop wheelchair users getting in. Plan an alternative accessible entrance and clear signs while the repair is arranged.
  • Wet and windy weather causes many false openings. Sensors over exposed entrances can react to rain and blowing leaves, and a small change to the detection zone often cures it.
  • Leisure centres, schools and public buildings in Gloucestershire may need a contractor induction or permit before work starts. Send any site rules with your booking so the visit can go ahead first time.
  • Rule out the simple things. Check whether the door's isolator or fused spur has been switched off, and whether other equipment on the same circuit has also stopped working.
  • Shopping parades and business parks in Gloucestershire can have restricted parking or loading. Tell us where an engineer can park and unload tools when you book the visit.

Standards and rules in England

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.

No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend that a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer’s instructions and how heavily the door is used, and that someone on site carries out simple regular checks and keeps a record.

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

How it works

  1. Report the fault or service. Let us know whether the door has failed, is behaving oddly or is simply due a service or safety inspection. A short video of the problem helps the engineer prepare for the visit.
  2. Agree the price first. Before anyone travels to Gloucestershire, the visit price is set out in writing. It is based on the door type, the work requested and the location, so you know the cost in advance.
  3. Diagnose, repair, test. On site, the engineer finds the cause and puts it right where the parts are to hand, or completes the planned service. Sensors, safety functions and emergency behaviour are checked before the door returns to use.
  4. Paperwork and next steps. A written record of the visit is left with you or sent afterwards. If parts must be ordered or more work is advisable, it is quoted separately and only goes ahead once you accept.

For a written repair price in Gloucestershire, tell us the make of the door, what it is doing and whether it is stuck open, stuck shut or unsafe.

Automatic door repairs in Gloucestershire: questions

Can you repair revolving doors in Gloucestershire?

Yes. The engineers we send work on automatic and manual revolving doors as well as sliding and swing doors. Revolving doors have extra safety devices, such as stop buttons and edge sensors, which are all tested after a repair. Parts for some revolving doors take longer to source, so photos of the drive and control panel help us prepare.

What will automatic door repairs in Gloucestershire cost?

Our guide starts from £95 excluding VAT (visit including the first hour), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £114 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Gloucestershire, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

Is it safe to keep using a faulty automatic door in Gloucestershire?

It depends on the fault. A slow or noisy door may be safe to use until the visit, but a door that strikes people, closes unexpectedly or has damaged glass should be switched off and kept clear. If you are unsure, switch it off and use another entrance until an engineer has checked it.

How soon can an engineer get to my door in Gloucestershire?

That depends on engineer availability around Gloucestershire when you contact us, so we do not promise a time. Tell us whether the door is stuck open, stuck shut or unsafe, and we will tell you the earliest visit we can offer. Meanwhile, set the door to a safe mode and keep people away from the leaves.

What happens during a visit in Gloucestershire?

The engineer checks how the door is operating, diagnoses the fault or carries out the service, and tests the safety sensors and other functions before leaving. On a service visit that includes cleaning, adjustment and lubrication where needed. Anything that cannot be put right on the visit, or that needs parts, is explained and quoted before further work goes ahead.

Can visits in Gloucestershire be arranged outside working hours?

Yes, where the site needs it. Early-morning, evening and weekend visits can be arranged for shops, surgeries and offices that cannot lose their entrance during the day. Any difference in price for out-of-hours attendance is agreed in writing before the visit is booked, alongside the standard visit price.

Can a home in Gloucestershire get help paying for a door opener?

Possibly. In England a Disabled Facilities Grant of up to £30,000 can fund adaptations that make it easier to get in and out of a home. It is means-tested and must be approved by the council before work starts, so ask your council and occupational therapist.
