Coverage across Gloucestershire

Here is how coverage works in Gloucestershire. You contact us with the address and what the door needs, we confirm the price in writing, and a specialist engineer working under our management attends on an agreed date. That applies to automatic door servicing at a single shop door or across a whole estate of buildings, in any of the towns below or between them.

Towns listed in Gloucestershire: Gloucester, Cheltenham, Stroud, Kingswood, Yate, Tewkesbury, Cirencester.

What to think about for automatic door servicing in Gloucestershire

  • Schools and colleges in Gloucestershire often prefer servicing during holidays or after hours. Plan visits early in the year so they fall when the buildings are quiet.
  • Keep the programme switch key and any operator access keys on site. Engineers need them to change modes and test the door properly during the visit.
  • Floors matter. Uneven, worn or newly laid floor finishes can affect floor guides and sensor detection, so mention any recent floor work before the service.
  • Business parks and retail parks in Gloucestershire may have doors owned by the landlord and doors leased with the unit. Check who is responsible for servicing each door before booking.
  • Older doors in Gloucestershire may need parts replaced more often as they age. A service history that tracks wear helps you budget for repairs or a new drive unit before a breakdown.

Standards and rules in England

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.

No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend that a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer’s instructions and how heavily the door is used, and that someone on site carries out simple regular checks and keeps a record.

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

How it works

  1. Explain the problem. Whether the door is stuck, slow, noisy or due its next check, a short description and a few photos tell us which kind of visit to book for automatic door servicing and what to bring.
  2. Visit cost agreed. You get the visit price in writing before we book the engineer. There are no hidden extras: parts and further work are always quoted separately and in advance.
  3. Engineer on site. The engineer inspects the operator, sensors, tracks and leaves, carries out the repair or service, and runs the door through its safety tests before it goes back into use.
  4. Follow-up quoted. You are sent a record of the visit. If something else needs attention, we quote it in writing; for doors on a service plan, the next visit date is noted on the record.

Automatic door servicing in Gloucestershire: questions

What happens if the service in Gloucestershire finds a fault?

The engineer explains what they found and deals with small issues as part of the visit. Worn parts or longer repairs are quoted to you first and only carried out once you agree. The service report records the fault so it can be tracked at later visits.

How much should I budget for automatic door servicing in Gloucestershire?

Our guide starts from £145 excluding VAT (per visit, first door), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £174 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Gloucestershire, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

Can you service doors in Gloucestershire outside opening hours?

Visits early in the morning, in the evening or at weekends can often be arranged where the building needs it, although they may be priced differently. Tell us your opening hours and busiest times when you book, and the visit price we agree will reflect the time slot.

Do you service doors in Gloucestershire that another company installed?

Yes. We service most powered pedestrian doors, whoever fitted them. The first visit records each door's make, model, condition and any concerns, so later reports can be compared. If parts are no longer made for one of your doors, we let you know early so a replacement can be planned.

How often should automatic doors in Gloucestershire be serviced?

No law sets a fixed interval. We recommend a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer's instructions and how heavily the door is used; busy doors are often serviced more often. Site staff should also carry out simple regular checks and keep a record of them.

Do you offer service contracts in Gloucestershire?

Yes. A service contract sets out how many visits a year each door receives, what each visit includes and the price, all agreed in writing before you sign. Contracts suit sites with several doors or busy entrances, because visits are planned ahead and the records stay in one place. Contract length and notice terms are shown in the agreement.

Do businesses in Gloucestershire have to fit automatic doors?

No law says every building must have automatic doors. Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and building regulations guidance in England calls for a powered door where an entrance door would otherwise be too heavy to open. An automatic door is often the simplest way to meet both.
