What to think about for telescopic sliding doors in South Yorkshire

  • Entrances used by ambulances and patient transport in South Yorkshire benefit from a full-opening button for crews, while everyday visitors use a narrower partial opening that keeps the waiting area warmer.
  • Shop units in South Yorkshire that trade late or open early may want installation outside trading hours. Early starts and weekend work can usually be arranged and are shown as a separate line in the quote.
  • A telescopic header is deeper than a standard one. In older buildings in South Yorkshire with low ceilings or decorative fanlights, the survey checks whether the header can sit above the opening or needs to be recessed.
  • If the entrance is on an escape route, ask your fire risk assessor what the door must do before ordering. Break-out telescopic leaves have to be chosen at the start, because they cannot be added afterwards.
  • Floor guides on two sets of leaves need a level, firm floor. Cracked screed, rocking tiles or a sloping threshold should be put right before fitting, and the quote will say who does it.

Standards and rules in England

Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. New entrances and some alterations count as building work, so check with building control before the work is ordered.

How it works

  1. Start with a short enquiry. Use the form, phone or email. Tell us whether the work is a new door, an upgrade or an opener for a home, and we arrange the next step for your site in South Yorkshire.
  2. Measured survey. The free survey confirms what will fit and what the entrance needs: opening width, door type, activation, safety sensors and behaviour on power loss or fire alarm, matched to how the building is used.
  3. Written price, no surprises. A fixed, itemised quote sets out the specification, the work involved, the expected lead time and the warranty terms. You can ask questions or change the specification before accepting it.
  4. Installed and commissioned. The door is installed with as little disruption as possible, then set up and tested for its hazard zones. Before leaving, the engineer explains the controls and hands over the documents for your records.

Book a free site survey in South Yorkshire, and an engineer will measure the opening and send a drawing with a fixed, itemised quote for telescopic sliding doors.

Telescopic sliding doors in South Yorkshire: questions

Will a telescopic door in South Yorkshire work with our fire alarm?

It can. The operator can take a signal from the fire alarm panel so the door opens and stays open, or does whatever the fire strategy for the building requires. The panel connection is usually made by your alarm engineer, and the quote shows who is responsible for each part of the work.

Is there a guide price for telescopic sliding doors in South Yorkshire?

Our guide starts from £6,995 excluding VAT (per door set), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in South Yorkshire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Can our existing sliding door in South Yorkshire be converted to telescopic?

Not usually by modifying the old door, because the header, tracks and leaves are different. It is normally replaced as a complete set within the same opening. The survey checks whether the existing structure and floor can take the new door, and the quote shows removal of the old one as a separate line.

What paperwork do we get after installation in South Yorkshire?

You receive the commissioning and test record, a site-specific risk assessment, user instructions and the conformity paperwork for the door. Keep them with your building records. They are the starting point for later servicing and safety inspections, and they show how the door was set up with reference to BS EN 16005.

What does the free site survey in South Yorkshire involve?

An engineer working under our management visits the building, measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power supply, and looks at how people use the entrance. The survey is free and carries no obligation. Afterwards you receive a fixed, itemised written quote for telescopic sliding doors, with drawings where the door type needs them.

Do you service doors in South Yorkshire after installing them?

Yes. We recommend a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer's instructions and how heavily the door is used; busy doors are often serviced more often. Servicing can follow on from the installation, with the price agreed in writing and a record left after every visit.

Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in South Yorkshire?

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person for the premises must make sure escape routes work and fire safety equipment is maintained. Automatic doors on an escape route need fail-safe opening or break-out, set by the fire strategy.
