What to think about for telescopic sliding doors in Nottinghamshire
- Power for the operator usually comes from a fused spur at the head of the door. Where the nearest supply is some distance away, plan for an electrician to run a new circuit before the fitting day.
- Hospital and supermarket entrances in Nottinghamshire that run for long hours put more wear on the extra rollers and belts of a telescopic door. Plan a servicing arrangement from the start rather than waiting for the first fault.
- Grit and leaves blown into the threshold collect in floor guide channels. Entrances facing a car park or open ground benefit from a matwell or canopy, which also keeps rain off the sensors.
- Floor guides on two sets of leaves need a level, firm floor. Cracked screed, rocking tiles or a sloping threshold should be put right before fitting, and the quote will say who does it.
- Entrances across Nottinghamshire that face the prevailing wind can suffer from leaves dragging or sensors reacting to blown debris. A canopy, a draught lobby or careful sensor set-up deals with most of these problems.

Standards and rules in England
Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.
In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.
Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. New entrances and some alterations count as building work, so check with building control before the work is ordered.
How it works
- Describe what you need. Whether the job is telescopic sliding doors for a busy entrance or for a single internal door, a brief description and some photos let us understand it and plan a survey visit in Nottinghamshire.
- Free visit to the site. An engineer working under our management assesses the opening, the existing door and frame, the floor and the electrical supply, and notes any access, consent or timing issues to plan around.
- Your fixed quotation. The quote is fixed for the work it describes and lists each item, including any removal, making good and electrical work. It also states the lead time, the payment stages and the warranty terms.
- Fitting and sign-off. Work goes ahead on dates agreed with you. Once fitted, the door is adjusted and its safety functions are tested and recorded with reference to BS EN 16005, and you are shown how to use it.
Tell us the width you need and the space either side, and we will arrange a free survey in Nottinghamshire for a telescopic sliding door.
Telescopic sliding doors in Nottinghamshire: questions
Is the telescopic door survey in Nottinghamshire really free?
Yes, for a new telescopic entrance the site survey costs nothing and carries no obligation. The engineer measures the opening, checks the structure, floor and power, and talks through layouts. You then receive a measured drawing and a fixed, itemised written quote, and you decide whether to go ahead.
Is there a guide price for telescopic sliding doors in Nottinghamshire?
Our guide starts from £6,995 excluding VAT (per door set), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Nottinghamshire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Can our existing sliding door in Nottinghamshire be converted to telescopic?
Not usually by modifying the old door, because the header, tracks and leaves are different. It is normally replaced as a complete set within the same opening. The survey checks whether the existing structure and floor can take the new door, and the quote shows removal of the old one as a separate line.
How much wider will our entrance in Nottinghamshire be with telescopic doors?
As a rough guide, a telescopic door gives about two-thirds of its overall width as clear opening, against about half for a standard sliding door. On a typical shop or surgery entrance that can mean an extra 300 to 600 mm. The survey drawing for your building in Nottinghamshire shows the exact clear width before you commit.
What does the written quote for telescopic sliding doors in Nottinghamshire include?
The quote lists each item separately: the door or equipment, installation, electrical connections where we provide them, removal of anything being replaced, testing and handover. It is a fixed price for the work described, so it does not change unless the scope changes, and any change is agreed with you in writing first.
What does the free site survey in Nottinghamshire involve?
An engineer working under our management visits the building, measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power supply, and looks at how people use the entrance. The survey is free and carries no obligation. Afterwards you receive a fixed, itemised written quote for telescopic sliding doors, with drawings where the door type needs them.
Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in Nottinghamshire?
In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
