Sensor upgrades and replacement in Ayrshire

Not every sensor fault needs a new sensor. Engineers in Ayrshire check the detection zone, mounting and wiring first, and only replace a sensor when adjustment will not fix it. Any parts are quoted to you before they are fitted.

Coverage across Ayrshire

We treat Ayrshire as one service area for sensor upgrades and replacement, so a site on the edge of the area gets the same written pricing and the same standard of work as one in the busiest town centre. Specialist automatic door engineers working under our management carry out each visit. Choose from the 11 towns below, or contact us with any address.

What to think about for sensor upgrades and replacement in Ayrshire

  • Rain, snow and blowing leaves can trigger radar sensors over exposed doors. Some sensors filter weather better than others, which the engineer weighs up when choosing a replacement.
  • Doors with side screens may need a light curtain on the leaf edge or post to protect the gap. This is one of the most common upgrades on older sliding doors.
  • Corridor doors that people walk past rather than through may work better on a touch-free switch than a motion sensor, cutting needless openings and heat loss.
  • Sensor changes on escape route doors must never stop the door opening when it needs to. The engineer checks the door's escape mode after any sensor work.
  • Sites in Ayrshire that open early or close late may want sensor work done outside trading hours. Tell us the quieter times when you book the visit.

Sensor upgrades and replacement in Ayrshire: guide prices

The visit price is agreed in writing before an engineer attends; parts and any further work are quoted before they are done. Guide price: typically £195 to £495 ex VAT.

Sensor prices cover the part, fitting and set-up. If a sensor is fitted on a visit of its own, the visit charge (from £95 ex VAT) is added, and we confirm the total in writing before an engineer attends. Each sensor is set up for the door and tested before the engineer leaves.

Standards and rules in Scotland

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.

No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend that a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer’s instructions and how heavily the door is used, and that someone on site carries out simple regular checks and keeps a record.

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

How it works

  1. Report the fault or service. Let us know whether the door has failed, is behaving oddly or is simply due a service or safety inspection. A short video of the problem helps the engineer prepare for the visit.
  2. Agree the price first. Before anyone travels to Ayrshire, the visit price is set out in writing. It is based on the door type, the work requested and the location, so you know the cost in advance.
  3. Diagnose, repair, test. On site, the engineer finds the cause and puts it right where the parts are to hand, or completes the planned service. Sensors, safety functions and emergency behaviour are checked before the door returns to use.
  4. Paperwork and next steps. A written record of the visit is left with you or sent afterwards. If parts must be ordered or more work is advisable, it is quoted separately and only goes ahead once you accept.

Sensor upgrades and replacement in Ayrshire: questions

Can you price new sensors for my door in Ayrshire from photos?

Often, yes. Photos of the sensor, the door from both sides and the label on the operator cover usually tell us which sensor is needed and whether it suits the controller. We can then quote the sensor and fitting in advance, with the visit price confirmed before anyone travels.

What do you charge for sensor upgrades and replacement in Ayrshire?

Our guide is £195 to £495 excluding VAT (per sensor fitted), the same guide prices we use across the UK. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Ayrshire, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

Will you record the sensor settings for our building in Ayrshire?

Yes. The job report lists each sensor fitted, its position, the settings used and the test results. Keep it with your service records, as it helps future engineers and shows the door's safety set-up was checked after the work. The same details are useful if an insurer or inspector asks.

Our door in Ayrshire closes on people. Is that a sensor fault?

It is likely, and the door should be treated as unsafe. Switch it to a safe mode, such as manual or open, and keep people away from the leaves. Tell us it is unsafe and we will give you the earliest visit we can offer, then the engineer will check the safety sensors and their zones.

Can you price a repair in Ayrshire from photos?

Sometimes. Clear photos of the door, the operator cover and any label showing the make and model, plus a description of what the door is doing, can let us price a likely repair before a visit. Where the cause is not obvious, we agree a diagnostic visit price in writing first and quote the repair afterwards.

Can you take over servicing of doors in Ayrshire from another company?

Yes. Send us the door details and, if you have them, previous service records or inspection reports. The first visit gives a baseline for each door, and its price is agreed in writing beforehand. From then on, records continue in one consistent format, whichever company looked after the doors before.

Is a building warrant needed for a new automatic entrance in Ayrshire?

Often, yes. Most building work in Scotland needs a building warrant before it starts, and the non-domestic Technical Handbook sets out what an accessible entrance should provide, including a clear opening of at least 800 mm. We tell you at the survey if your job is likely to need one.
