Hermetic sliding doors in the West Midlands

If an operating theatre in the West Midlands is losing pressure through an old sliding door, a hermetic replacement can restore the seal. We survey the opening, the wall and the floor, then quote a fixed price for the new door and its installation.

Coverage across the West Midlands

For hermetic sliding doors anywhere in the West Midlands, you deal with one contracting party and one written price. We organise the visit, brief the engineer, who works under our management, and keep the paperwork together afterwards. Below you will find the towns we list in this part of England, 24 in all; if your address sits outside them, the arrangements are exactly the same.

Towns listed in the West Midlands: Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Walsall, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, West Bromwich, Halesowen, Stourbridge, Smethwick, Willenhall, Tipton, Bloxwich, Oldbury, Wednesfield, Shirley, Bilston, Brierley Hill, Aldridge, Rowley Regis, Sedgley, Wednesbury, Kingswinford.

What to think about for hermetic sliding doors in the West Midlands

  • Theatre doors in the West Midlands can usually only be replaced during a planned shutdown. Agree the dates with the theatre team early, as the door is made to order and the room needs cleaning and validation after installation.
  • Seals are consumable parts. Budget for regular inspection and replacement in the planned maintenance programme for each theatre or cleanroom, with visit prices agreed in writing.
  • Infection control rules in hospitals across the West Midlands usually require screening, dust control and permits for work in clinical areas. Share your procedures at survey so they are built into the programme.
  • Interlocked doors need clear logic. Decide with your engineers which door has priority, how staff override the interlock in an emergency and what the status lights should show.
  • Pharmacy aseptic units in the West Midlands may want doors that follow the colour coding of their clean zones. Leaf finishes can be chosen in a different colour for each grade of room.

Standards and rules in England

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them.

In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

Glass in and beside doors must be safety glass or protected where people could walk into it, and clear glass needs markings in two bands, 850 mm to 1000 mm and 1400 mm to 1600 mm above the floor (Approved Document K).

How it works

  1. Send photos and the address. A few pictures of the door from both sides, the address in the West Midlands and a note of who uses the entrance help us understand the job before anyone visits the site.
  2. No-cost survey on site. We arrange a survey at a time that suits the building. The engineer records measurements, fixings and power, plus any constraints such as listed status, opening hours or access for deliveries.
  3. Itemised quote to approve. We price every element of the work on hermetic sliding doors separately in a written quote that you can check, share and approve. Lead time and payment stages are stated, and nothing is ordered until you accept.
  4. Fit, test and hand over. On the agreed dates the engineer installs the equipment, commissions the operator and tests each safety function. You get a demonstration, the test record and any conformity paperwork that applies to the work.

Hermetic sliding doors in the West Midlands: questions

Can you work within our infection control procedures in the West Midlands?

Yes. Work in clinical and cleanroom areas is planned around your permits, screening and dust control requirements, and around room shutdowns. Share your procedures at the survey and we will build them into the method statement and the programme for the installation.

How are prices worked out for hermetic sliding doors in the West Midlands?

Our guide starts from £8,995 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in the West Midlands confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Who maintains hermetic doors in the West Midlands once fitted?

We can, through planned servicing with each visit priced in writing before an engineer attends. Seals, sensors and interlocks need regular checks, and a trained engineer should test the safety functions at least once a year. Many theatres and cleanrooms schedule more frequent checks as part of their own maintenance programme.

Will the hermetic door in the West Midlands link to our building management system?

It can. The operator can send door status to the building management system and receive signals from it, as well as from the fire alarm and access control. The interface is agreed with your controls contractor and shown in the quote, so responsibilities are clear.

Will the building stay secure while the entrance is being changed?

We plan to keep the entrance usable or secure throughout. Where a door has to come out, the work is sequenced so the opening is closed up before the engineer leaves, or a temporary door or hoarding is arranged when a longer gap cannot be avoided. How this is handled for your site in the West Midlands is agreed before work starts.

Do you service doors in the West Midlands after installing them?

Yes. We recommend a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer's instructions and how heavily the door is used; busy doors are often serviced more often. Servicing can follow on from the installation, with the price agreed in writing and a record left after every visit.

Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in the West Midlands?

In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
