Coverage across the West Midlands

Booking automatic swing doors in the West Midlands does not depend on being close to a particular town. Engineers working under our management travel throughout the area, and nothing goes ahead until the price has been agreed in writing. Below are the towns we list here, 24 at present, each linking to a page with nearby places and guide prices.

What to think about for automatic swing doors in the West Midlands

  • Office buildings in the West Midlands with access control can have doors that open automatically in working hours and only for card holders after hours, using a timer and the existing reader.
  • Power comes from a fused spur near the head of the door. In older buildings in the West Midlands with solid walls, allow time for surface trunking or chasing to reach the operator.
  • Electric locks must be coordinated with the operator, so the lock releases before the arm moves. Tell us about existing locks, card readers and intercoms at the survey.
  • Doors on escape routes in the West Midlands usually open in the direction of escape. If the current door opens the other way, the survey will flag whether it should be changed before the operator is fitted.
  • Schools in the West Midlands often prefer installation during half-term or the summer holidays. Operators are typically 2 to 4 weeks from order, so book the survey a few weeks before the break.

Standards and rules in England

Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. New entrances and some alterations count as building work, so check with building control before the work is ordered.

How it works

  1. Send photos and the address. A few pictures of the door from both sides, the address in the West Midlands and a note of who uses the entrance help us understand the job before anyone visits the site.
  2. No-cost survey on site. We arrange a survey at a time that suits the building. The engineer records measurements, fixings and power, plus any constraints such as listed status, opening hours or access for deliveries.
  3. Itemised quote to approve. We price every element of the work on automatic swing doors separately in a written quote that you can check, share and approve. Lead time and payment stages are stated, and nothing is ordered until you accept.
  4. Fit, test and hand over. On the agreed dates the engineer installs the equipment, commissions the operator and tests each safety function. You get a demonstration, the test record and any conformity paperwork that applies to the work.

Automatic swing doors in the West Midlands: questions

Can you service swing doors in the West Midlands after fitting?

Yes. We can arrange planned servicing, with each visit priced in writing before an engineer attends. A trained engineer should check the safety functions at least once a year, and busy corridors, schools and hospitals usually need more frequent visits. Staff should also carry out simple daily checks.

Can you give me a price for automatic swing doors in the West Midlands?

Our guide starts from £2,495 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in the West Midlands confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

How quickly can a swing operator be fitted in the West Midlands?

Operators for existing doors are typically 2 to 4 weeks from order. On site, a single door usually takes half a day to a day, and a pair about a day. We can plan work for evenings, weekends or holidays where the building is busy, with any extra cost shown in the quote.

Will the swing operator in the West Midlands work with our fire alarm?

It can. Fire doors that are held open must close automatically when the fire alarm operates, and the operator can be linked to the alarm to do this. Other doors can be set to open on alarm where the fire strategy needs it. Your alarm engineer usually makes the panel connection.

Can automatic doors be fitted to a listed building in the West Midlands?

Often, yes, but listed building consent is normally needed for changes that affect the character of the building, inside or out. Slim operators, concealed fixings and automating the existing door can all reduce the visual impact. Speak to the conservation officer at the local planning authority early; we can provide drawings and specifications to help.

Do you service doors in the West Midlands after installing them?

Yes. We recommend a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer's instructions and how heavily the door is used; busy doors are often serviced more often. Servicing can follow on from the installation, with the price agreed in writing and a record left after every visit.

Do businesses in the West Midlands have to fit automatic doors?

No law says every building must have automatic doors. Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and building regulations guidance in England calls for a powered door where an entrance door would otherwise be too heavy to open. An automatic door is often the simplest way to meet both.
