What to think about for frameless glass automatic doors on the Isle of Wight
- Floor guides need a sound floor. Where the entrance has stone, tiles or polished concrete, agree whether a channel will be cut or a small surface guide fixed, and who makes good the finish.
- Every edge and fitting on a frameless door is visible. Choose a top rail and clamp finish, such as satin stainless or black, that suits the rest of the ironmongery in the building.
- Street-facing doors on the Isle of Wight that take the full force of wind and rain may be better as framed sliding doors. Frameless leaves have small gaps that let draughts and noise through.
- Cleaning staff at busy venues on the Isle of Wight should use non-abrasive products on frameless doors, keep the floor guide clear of grit and report any chipped glass edge straight away.
- Listed interiors and heritage buildings on the Isle of Wight sometimes favour frameless glass because it hides less of the original fabric. Consent may still be needed, so check with the planning authority early.

Standards and rules in England
Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.
In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.
Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. New entrances and some alterations count as building work, so check with building control before the work is ordered.
How it works
- Start with a short enquiry. Use the form, phone or email. Tell us whether the work is a new door, an upgrade or an opener for a home, and we arrange the next step for your site on the Isle of Wight.
- Measured survey. The free survey confirms what will fit and what the entrance needs: opening width, door type, activation, safety sensors and behaviour on power loss or fire alarm, matched to how the building is used.
- Written price, no surprises. A fixed, itemised quote sets out the specification, the work involved, the expected lead time and the warranty terms. You can ask questions or change the specification before accepting it.
- Installed and commissioned. The door is installed with as little disruption as possible, then set up and tested for its hazard zones. Before leaving, the engineer explains the controls and hands over the documents for your records.

Frameless glass automatic doors on the Isle of Wight: questions
Is the survey for a frameless door on the Isle of Wight free?
Yes. For a new frameless automatic door, the survey is free and you are under no obligation. The engineer measures the opening, checks the structure above and the floor below, discusses glass and fittings, and you then receive a drawing and a fixed, itemised written quote.
Is there a guide price for frameless glass automatic doors on the Isle of Wight?
Our guide starts from £5,495 excluding VAT (per door set), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey on the Isle of Wight confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Can a frameless door on the Isle of Wight match our existing glass partitions?
Usually, yes. We can match glass type and thickness, gap sizes and fitting finishes to the partition, working from the fit-out drawings where you have them. The survey checks the partition head and tolerances, so the new door sits in line with the existing glass and the operator is fixed to something solid above.
What should we do if the frameless door on the Isle of Wight is damaged?
If the glass is chipped or cracked, switch the door off, keep people away from the damaged leaf and contact us. A repair or replacement visit is priced in writing before an engineer attends, and replacement glass is quoted before it is ordered. Laminated glass usually stays in place until it can be replaced.
What does the free site survey on the Isle of Wight involve?
An engineer working under our management visits the building, measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power supply, and looks at how people use the entrance. The survey is free and carries no obligation. Afterwards you receive a fixed, itemised written quote for frameless glass automatic doors, with drawings where the door type needs them.
What is the lead time for frameless glass automatic doors on the Isle of Wight?
Lead times depend on the door type and what has to be made to order. As a guide, operators and accessible door kits are typically two to four weeks from order, and complete sliding entrances typically four to eight weeks from drawing approval. Curved, revolving and hermetic doors usually take longer. The expected lead time is stated in your quote.
Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance on the Isle of Wight?
In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
