Coverage across the Isle of Wight
Our coverage of the Isle of Wight is not tied to a depot or a showroom. Engineers who carry out automatic swing doors for us travel to each site, so a farm shop down a country lane goes through the same process as a city-centre office. Every job is priced in writing before work starts, and the town list below currently numbers 4.
Towns listed on the Isle of Wight: Newport, Ryde, Cowes, Sandown.
What to think about for automatic swing doors on the Isle of Wight
- Electric locks must be coordinated with the operator, so the lock releases before the arm moves. Tell us about existing locks, card readers and intercoms at the survey.
- Check the hinges first. Older doors on the Isle of Wight often have worn hinges that would fail under an operator, so the survey may recommend heavier hinges or pivots.
- Doors on escape routes on the Isle of Wight usually open in the direction of escape. If the current door opens the other way, the survey will flag whether it should be changed before the operator is fitted.
- Fire doors need care. The operator must suit the door, keep its fire performance intact and close the door when the alarm sounds, so have the door's labels and records to hand for the survey.
- External swing doors facing the wind need stronger operators and careful set-up. On exposed sites across the Isle of Wight, consider whether a canopy or a sliding door would work better.

Standards and rules in England
Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.
In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.
Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. New entrances and some alterations count as building work, so check with building control before the work is ordered.
How it works
- Send photos and the address. A few pictures of the door from both sides, the address on the Isle of Wight and a note of who uses the entrance help us understand the job before anyone visits the site.
- No-cost survey on site. We arrange a survey at a time that suits the building. The engineer records measurements, fixings and power, plus any constraints such as listed status, opening hours or access for deliveries.
- Itemised quote to approve. We price every element of the work on automatic swing doors separately in a written quote that you can check, share and approve. Lead time and payment stages are stated, and nothing is ordered until you accept.
- Fit, test and hand over. On the agreed dates the engineer installs the equipment, commissions the operator and tests each safety function. You get a demonstration, the test record and any conformity paperwork that applies to the work.
For corridor, office or school doors on the Isle of Wight, send us photos and door sizes and we will plan the right swing operators.
Automatic swing doors on the Isle of Wight: questions
How quickly can a swing operator be fitted on the Isle of Wight?
Operators for existing doors are typically 2 to 4 weeks from order. On site, a single door usually takes half a day to a day, and a pair about a day. We can plan work for evenings, weekends or holidays where the building is busy, with any extra cost shown in the quote.
Can you give me a price for automatic swing doors on the Isle of Wight?
Our guide starts from £2,495 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey on the Isle of Wight confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Do you fit low-energy operators on the Isle of Wight as well?
Yes. Where a door is quieter and used mainly by people who need help opening it, a low-energy operator may be the better choice, as long as a risk assessment shows it is suitable. We compare full-energy and low-energy at the survey and explain the difference in the quote.
Will the swing operator on the Isle of Wight work with our fire alarm?
It can. Fire doors that are held open must close automatically when the fire alarm operates, and the operator can be linked to the alarm to do this. Other doors can be set to open on alarm where the fire strategy needs it. Your alarm engineer usually makes the panel connection.
What do you need from us for parking and access on the Isle of Wight?
Somewhere for the engineer's van as close to the entrance as possible, and a clear working area around the door. If parking is restricted, loading rules apply or the site has security procedures, tell us when you book. Those details go into the plan so the visit is not held up on the day.
What does the free site survey on the Isle of Wight involve?
An engineer working under our management visits the building, measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power supply, and looks at how people use the entrance. The survey is free and carries no obligation. Afterwards you receive a fixed, itemised written quote for automatic swing doors, with drawings where the door type needs them.
Do businesses on the Isle of Wight have to fit automatic doors?
No law says every building must have automatic doors. Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and building regulations guidance in England calls for a powered door where an entrance door would otherwise be too heavy to open. An automatic door is often the simplest way to meet both.
