Coverage across Gwent

Our coverage of Gwent is not tied to a depot or a showroom. Engineers who carry out safety and compliance upgrades for us travel to each site, so a farm shop down a country lane goes through the same process as a city-centre office. Every job is priced in writing before work starts, and the town list below currently numbers 14.

Towns listed in Gwent: Newport, Cwmbran, Pontypool, Ebbw Vale, Caerphilly, Blackwood, Tredegar, Abergavenny, Bargoed, Chepstow, Risca, Abertillery, Monmouth, Caldicot.

What to think about for safety and compliance upgrades in Gwent

  • Schools and nurseries need particular attention to finger traps at hinges and beside screens, where small children's hands could easily be caught as the door moves.
  • Shared entrances in office blocks need agreement on who pays for upgrades. The inspection report helps landlords and tenants agree the scope before work is ordered.
  • Programme switches within reach of the public in Gwent should be key-operated or protected, so the door cannot be left in an unsafe mode by mistake.
  • Escape route doors must open, break out or be openable by hand as the fire strategy requires. Check what yours says before choosing which upgrades to make.
  • Listed buildings and conservation areas in Gwent may limit visible changes. Slim sensors and discreet guards keep the look of the historic entrance largely unchanged.

Standards and rules in Wales

Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible. BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them.

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the entrance. Send the address, a few photos and a rough size of the opening, and say how the door is used. That is enough for us to suggest options for safety and compliance upgrades and book a survey in Gwent.
  2. Free site survey. A specialist engineer working under our management measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power, and talks through how people use the entrance. There is no charge and no obligation.
  3. Fixed written quote. You receive a fixed, itemised written quote with the specification, lead time, payment stages and warranty terms. The price does not change unless the scope does, and any change is agreed in writing first.
  4. Installation and handover. The door is fitted on the agreed dates, then set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown the controls and the simple checks to make, and receive the handover paperwork.

Keep an older door in safe use. Arrange a free survey in Gwent and receive a quote that lists every upgrade on its own line.

Safety and compliance upgrades in Gwent: questions

Can you quote from our existing inspection report in Gwent?

Yes. Send us the report and we will price each recommended action. If the door has changed since the report was written, or a finding is unclear, the engineer checks it on the free survey before the quote is finalised, so you only pay for what the door needs.

What price range should I expect for safety and compliance upgrades in Gwent?

Our guide starts from £195 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Gwent confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Is it cheaper to upgrade or replace our old door in Gwent?

Upgrading is usually cheaper when the door and operator are sound. If the operator is old and several upgrades are needed, a new drive unit with new sensors may be better value overall. The survey compares the options, and the quote can show both so you can decide.

Do you need an inspection before upgrading a door in Gwent?

Not always. If you know what you need, such as a key switch or new signs, we can survey and quote for it directly. For a full picture of the door's risks, a documented safety inspection is the better starting point, and it is a separate service priced before the visit.

What do you need from us for parking and access in Gwent?

Somewhere for the engineer's van as close to the entrance as possible, and a clear working area around the door. If parking is restricted, loading rules apply or the site has security procedures, tell us when you book. Those details go into the plan so the visit is not held up on the day.

How much disruption should we expect while the work is done in Gwent?

Most installations take one visit or a short series of visits, with dust and noise kept to the area around the door. The engineer screens off the work area, keeps a route in or out where possible and clears up before leaving. Larger entrances, lobbies or structural changes take longer, and the quote explains how that work is phased.

Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in Gwent?

The responsible person under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Automatic doors on an escape route need fail-safe opening or break-out, and sliding or revolving doors must not be used for exits specifically intended as emergency exits.
