What to think about for automatic internal doors in County Antrim

  • Plan the work around the building's routine. Clinical areas, classrooms and kitchens in County Antrim may need out-of-hours working, which should be agreed and priced up front.
  • Each automated door needs power at the head. In older buildings in County Antrim, running new supplies through finished corridors can be a significant part of the cost.
  • Check the fire rating of each door before the survey. Fire doors need operators made for them, and fixings and cables must not weaken the rating.
  • Care homes in County Antrim often have residents with dementia. Think about which doors should open freely and which should be controlled, and agree that as a care decision before choosing controls.
  • Schools and colleges in County Antrim often prefer corridor work in the holidays. Book the survey early in the term before, so doors and operators can be ordered and delivered in time.

Standards and rules in Northern Ireland

In Northern Ireland, disability access duties come from the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, because the Equality Act 2010 does not apply there. Service providers and employers are expected to make reasonable adjustments, and an automatic door is a common one at entrances. Fitting an automatic door helps, but does not on its own guarantee those duties are met.

The Building Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012 require a powered door to have a means to prevent it trapping anyone and a means to open it if the power fails. Guidance on access to buildings is in Technical Booklet R, and building control approval is needed for new entrances.

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Northern Ireland machinery, including a new or converted powered door, carries the CE marking (with UKNI added where a UK body carried out the conformity assessment), and the EU Machinery Regulation applies there from 20 January 2027.

How it works

  1. Describe what you need. Whether the job is automatic internal doors for a busy entrance or for a single internal door, a brief description and some photos let us understand it and plan a survey visit in County Antrim.
  2. Free visit to the site. An engineer working under our management assesses the opening, the existing door and frame, the floor and the electrical supply, and notes any access, consent or timing issues to plan around.
  3. Your fixed quotation. The quote is fixed for the work it describes and lists each item, including any removal, making good and electrical work. It also states the lead time, the payment stages and the warranty terms.
  4. Fitting and sign-off. Work goes ahead on dates agreed with you. Once fitted, the door is adjusted and its safety functions are tested and recorded with reference to BS EN 16005, and you are shown how to use it.

Send us a list of the doors and how they are used, and we will plan automatic internal doors for your building in County Antrim.

Automatic internal doors in County Antrim: questions

Can you fit automatic doors in a school in County Antrim?

Yes. Corridor fire doors, dining halls and doors to accessible facilities are common. We usually plan the work for school holidays or after hours, and agree the programme with the school in writing so safeguarding and fire arrangements are maintained throughout.

Is there a guide price for automatic internal doors in County Antrim?

Our guide starts from £1,795 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in County Antrim confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Can you service the internal doors in County Antrim after fitting?

Yes. We can arrange planned servicing with each door's operator, sensors and fire alarm release checked and a written record left. Servicing is chargeable, and the price per visit is agreed in writing before an engineer attends. Visits can be grouped so several doors are done together.

Can internal doors at our offices in County Antrim be linked to access control?

Yes. Card readers, fob readers or keypads can control who passes into staff areas, and the door opens automatically once access is granted. Locks release on the fire alarm where the fire strategy requires, and we can connect to an existing access control system or supply a standalone one.

What power supply is needed for automatic internal doors in County Antrim?

Most powered doors need a fused spur close to the operator, and some activation and access control devices also need a low-voltage link. The survey checks what is already there. If a new supply is required, the quote says whether we arrange it or your own electrician does, so nothing is left unclear on the day.

Can installation in County Antrim happen outside opening hours?

Yes. Many shops, surgeries and offices prefer work early in the morning, in the evening or at weekends, when the entrance is quietest. Tell us your constraints when you enquire and they are built into the plan. Any extra cost for out-of-hours work is shown in the written quote rather than added afterwards.

What do the building regulations in Northern Ireland say about powered doors?

The Building Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012 require a powered door to have a means to prevent it trapping anyone and a means to open it if the power fails. Guidance on access is in Technical Booklet R, and new entrances need building control approval.
