What to think about for automatic internal doors in County Down

  • Care homes in County Down often have residents with dementia. Think about which doors should open freely and which should be controlled, and agree that as a care decision before choosing controls.
  • Schools and colleges in County Down often prefer corridor work in the holidays. Book the survey early in the term before, so doors and operators can be ordered and delivered in time.
  • Infection control rules may set what materials and controls can be used. Wipe-clean surfaces and sealed switches that stand up to cleaning products are worth specifying.
  • Doors linked to the fire alarm need a signal from the alarm panel. Allow time for your fire alarm contractor to provide the connection and test it with us.
  • Noise matters on wards and in bedrooms. Ask for night settings or quieter operators on doors near where people sleep, and check how loud any electric locks are when they release.

Standards and rules in Northern Ireland

In Northern Ireland, disability access duties come from the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, because the Equality Act 2010 does not apply there. Service providers and employers are expected to make reasonable adjustments, and an automatic door is a common one at entrances. Fitting an automatic door helps, but does not on its own guarantee those duties are met.

The Building Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012 require a powered door to have a means to prevent it trapping anyone and a means to open it if the power fails. Guidance on access to buildings is in Technical Booklet R, and building control approval is needed for new entrances.

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Northern Ireland machinery, including a new or converted powered door, carries the CE marking (with UKNI added where a UK body carried out the conformity assessment), and the EU Machinery Regulation applies there from 20 January 2027.

How it works

  1. Describe what you need. Whether the job is automatic internal doors for a busy entrance or for a single internal door, a brief description and some photos let us understand it and plan a survey visit in County Down.
  2. Free visit to the site. An engineer working under our management assesses the opening, the existing door and frame, the floor and the electrical supply, and notes any access, consent or timing issues to plan around.
  3. Your fixed quotation. The quote is fixed for the work it describes and lists each item, including any removal, making good and electrical work. It also states the lead time, the payment stages and the warranty terms.
  4. Fitting and sign-off. Work goes ahead on dates agreed with you. Once fitted, the door is adjusted and its safety functions are tested and recorded with reference to BS EN 16005, and you are shown how to use it.

Send us a list of the doors and how they are used, and we will plan automatic internal doors for your building in County Down.

Automatic internal doors in County Down: questions

Can you service the internal doors in County Down after fitting?

Yes. We can arrange planned servicing with each door's operator, sensors and fire alarm release checked and a written record left. Servicing is chargeable, and the price per visit is agreed in writing before an engineer attends. Visits can be grouped so several doors are done together.

Is there a guide price for automatic internal doors in County Down?

Our guide starts from £1,795 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in County Down confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Do you supply internal sliding doors as well as swing operators in County Down?

Yes. Where there is wall space beside the opening, a sliding door keeps the corridor clear and gives a wide opening, which suits wards. Where there is not, or the door is a fire door, a swing operator is usually the better fit. The survey compares both.

Can you automate the corridor doors in our care home in County Down?

Yes. We survey each door, including its fire rating, hinges, frame and power, and quote a fixed price. Doors can be set to open gently and slowly, with extra safety sensors where residents are frail. Work is planned around your care routines and agreed with the home manager.

Will the building stay secure while the entrance is being changed?

We plan to keep the entrance usable or secure throughout. Where a door has to come out, the work is sequenced so the opening is closed up before the engineer leaves, or a temporary door or hoarding is arranged when a longer gap cannot be avoided. How this is handled for your site in County Down is agreed before work starts.

What power supply is needed for automatic internal doors in County Down?

Most powered doors need a fused spur close to the operator, and some activation and access control devices also need a low-voltage link. The survey checks what is already there. If a new supply is required, the quote says whether we arrange it or your own electrician does, so nothing is left unclear on the day.

Which marking should a new automatic door in County Down carry?

In Northern Ireland machinery carries the CE marking, with UKNI added where a UK body carried out the conformity assessment. The EU Machinery Regulation applies in Northern Ireland from 20 January 2027.
