What to think about for automatic internal doors in County Tyrone
- Schools and colleges in County Tyrone often prefer corridor work in the holidays. Book the survey early in the term before, so doors and operators can be ordered and delivered in time.
- Noise matters on wards and in bedrooms. Ask for night settings or quieter operators on doors near where people sleep, and check how loud any electric locks are when they release.
- Lightweight stud partitions may not carry an operator without extra support. The survey checks what the wall is made of and what reinforcement is needed.
- Offices in County Tyrone with open-plan floors often have corridor fire doors that are held open by wedges. A proper hold-open device or operator removes the wedge and keeps the door working as a fire door.
- Measure what passes through the door, not just the door. Beds, hoists, trolleys and catering equipment can need a wider opening than the current door gives.

Standards and rules in Northern Ireland
In Northern Ireland, disability access duties come from the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, because the Equality Act 2010 does not apply there. Service providers and employers are expected to make reasonable adjustments, and an automatic door is a common one at entrances. Fitting an automatic door helps, but does not on its own guarantee those duties are met.
The Building Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012 require a powered door to have a means to prevent it trapping anyone and a means to open it if the power fails. Guidance on access to buildings is in Technical Booklet R, and building control approval is needed for new entrances.
Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Northern Ireland machinery, including a new or converted powered door, carries the CE marking (with UKNI added where a UK body carried out the conformity assessment), and the EU Machinery Regulation applies there from 20 January 2027.
How it works
- Describe what you need. Whether the job is automatic internal doors for a busy entrance or for a single internal door, a brief description and some photos let us understand it and plan a survey visit in County Tyrone.
- Free visit to the site. An engineer working under our management assesses the opening, the existing door and frame, the floor and the electrical supply, and notes any access, consent or timing issues to plan around.
- Your fixed quotation. The quote is fixed for the work it describes and lists each item, including any removal, making good and electrical work. It also states the lead time, the payment stages and the warranty terms.
- Fitting and sign-off. Work goes ahead on dates agreed with you. Once fitted, the door is adjusted and its safety functions are tested and recorded with reference to BS EN 16005, and you are shown how to use it.
Send us a list of the doors and how they are used, and we will plan automatic internal doors for your building in County Tyrone.
Automatic internal doors in County Tyrone: questions
Can our cross-corridor fire doors in County Tyrone be held open?
Yes, using hold-open devices or fire-rated operators linked to the fire alarm, so the doors close when the alarm operates. We check the doors' condition and ratings first. Any change to how fire doors behave should be agreed with whoever holds your fire risk assessment.
How are prices worked out for automatic internal doors in County Tyrone?
Our guide starts from £1,795 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in County Tyrone confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Do you work in hospitals in County Tyrone?
Yes. We work to the estates team's requirements for door widths, controls, infection control and fire alarm interfaces, and provide method statements, insurance details and the documents they ask for. Work on wards is usually planned out of hours or in phases.
How disruptive is the work in an occupied building in County Tyrone?
Usually less than people expect. Most swing operators take half a day to a day per door, and sliding doors a little longer. We plan the order of work to keep routes open, control dust, and agree any out-of-hours working in the quote.
Do I need permission from a landlord or the council before work in County Tyrone?
It depends on the building. Tenants usually need the landlord's written consent before changing an entrance, and some changes to a shopfront or external door need planning permission. The survey notes anything that may need consent. We can supply drawings and product details to support an application, but the owner or tenant makes it.
How do you make sure the door works for disabled visitors in County Tyrone?
We look at who uses the entrance: wheelchair users, people with walking aids, parents with buggies and older visitors. That shapes the opening width, the opening speed, the hold-open time and where push pads or sensors go. Service providers and employers have duties to make reasonable adjustments under equality and accessibility law, and an automatic door is a common one.
Which marking should a new automatic door in County Tyrone carry?
In Northern Ireland machinery carries the CE marking, with UKNI added where a UK body carried out the conformity assessment. The EU Machinery Regulation applies in Northern Ireland from 20 January 2027.
