Coverage across Hertfordshire

Here is how coverage works in Hertfordshire. You contact us with the address and what the door needs, we confirm the price in writing, and a specialist engineer working under our management attends on an agreed date. That applies to automatic door servicing at a single shop door or across a whole estate of buildings, in any of the towns below or between them.

What to think about for automatic door servicing in Hertfordshire

  • Older doors in Hertfordshire may need parts replaced more often as they age. A service history that tracks wear helps you budget for repairs or a new drive unit before a breakdown.
  • Schools and colleges in Hertfordshire often prefer servicing during holidays or after hours. Plan visits early in the year so they fall when the buildings are quiet.
  • Battery backup units wear out over time. Testing them at each service shows whether the door will still open or close safely in a power cut.
  • Doors on escape routes need their break-out or power-failure opening tested at every service. Tell us which doors serve escape routes so the engineer checks the right functions.
  • Keep the programme switch key and any operator access keys on site. Engineers need them to change modes and test the door properly during the visit.

Standards and rules in England

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.

No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend that a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer’s instructions and how heavily the door is used, and that someone on site carries out simple regular checks and keeps a record.

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

How it works

  1. Explain the problem. Whether the door is stuck, slow, noisy or due its next check, a short description and a few photos tell us which kind of visit to book for automatic door servicing and what to bring.
  2. Visit cost agreed. You get the visit price in writing before we book the engineer. There are no hidden extras: parts and further work are always quoted separately and in advance.
  3. Engineer on site. The engineer inspects the operator, sensors, tracks and leaves, carries out the repair or service, and runs the door through its safety tests before it goes back into use.
  4. Follow-up quoted. You are sent a record of the visit. If something else needs attention, we quote it in writing; for doors on a service plan, the next visit date is noted on the record.

Automatic door servicing in Hertfordshire: questions

Do you service doors in Hertfordshire that another company installed?

Yes. We service most powered pedestrian doors, whoever fitted them. The first visit records each door's make, model, condition and any concerns, so later reports can be compared. If parts are no longer made for one of your doors, we let you know early so a replacement can be planned.

Is there a guide price for automatic door servicing in Hertfordshire?

Our guide starts from £145 excluding VAT (per visit, first door), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £174 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Hertfordshire, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

How often should doors in Hertfordshire be serviced?

There is no fixed legal interval. We recommend a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with the interval set by the manufacturer's instructions and how heavily the door is used. Busy entrances, such as shops and surgeries, are often serviced every six months.

What happens if the service in Hertfordshire finds a fault?

The engineer explains what they found and deals with small issues as part of the visit. Worn parts or longer repairs are quoted to you first and only carried out once you agree. The service report records the fault so it can be tracked at later visits.

Can visits in Hertfordshire be arranged outside working hours?

Yes, where the site needs it. Early-morning, evening and weekend visits can be arranged for shops, surgeries and offices that cannot lose their entrance during the day. Any difference in price for out-of-hours attendance is agreed in writing before the visit is booked, alongside the standard visit price.

Which makes of automatic door can you work on in Hertfordshire?

Engineers working under our management work on most makes of automatic door, including sliding, swing, folding, telescopic and revolving types. Some older or obsolete operators have limited parts availability. If that applies, we explain the options, which may include a replacement drive unit on the existing frame, and quote them before anything is ordered.

Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in Hertfordshire?

In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
