Coverage across Bedfordshire

Not every part of Bedfordshire is easy to reach, and some sites need planning around access, parking or opening hours. We take that into account when arranging automatic door servicing, and the engineer, working under our management, arrives with what the job is likely to need. The towns below, 5 in all, each have their own page, but any address in the area can be covered.

Towns listed in Bedfordshire: Luton, Bedford, Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard, Kempston.

What to think about for automatic door servicing in Bedfordshire

  • Schools and colleges in Bedfordshire often prefer servicing during holidays or after hours. Plan visits early in the year so they fall when the buildings are quiet.
  • A logbook kept near the door, or a shared digital folder, makes it simple to show service history in Bedfordshire when an insurer, landlord or inspector asks for it.
  • Business parks and retail parks in Bedfordshire may have doors owned by the landlord and doors leased with the unit. Check who is responsible for servicing each door before booking.
  • Doors on escape routes need their break-out or power-failure opening tested at every service. Tell us which doors serve escape routes so the engineer checks the right functions.
  • Floors matter. Uneven, worn or newly laid floor finishes can affect floor guides and sensor detection, so mention any recent floor work before the service.

Standards and rules in England

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.

No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend that a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer’s instructions and how heavily the door is used, and that someone on site carries out simple regular checks and keeps a record.

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

How it works

  1. Share the details. Send the address in Bedfordshire, the door type and make if you know it, and a description or video of the problem. For servicing, tell us how many doors there are and how busy each one is.
  2. Price confirmed in writing. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends. Some straightforward repairs can be priced in full from photos and the make and model of the door.
  3. Diagnosis and repair. A specialist engineer attends on the agreed date, finds the cause, repairs or services the door, and tests its operation, sensors and safety functions with reference to BS EN 16005.
  4. Written record. Each visit ends with a written record for your files. Anything still outstanding, such as parts on order or recommended upgrades, is quoted before any further work is done.

Automatic door servicing in Bedfordshire: questions

Can you service doors in Bedfordshire outside opening hours?

Visits early in the morning, in the evening or at weekends can often be arranged where the building needs it, although they may be priced differently. Tell us your opening hours and busiest times when you book, and the visit price we agree will reflect the time slot.

Can you give me a price for automatic door servicing in Bedfordshire?

Our guide starts from £145 excluding VAT (per visit, first door), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £174 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Bedfordshire, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

What happens if the service in Bedfordshire finds a fault?

The engineer explains what they found and deals with small issues as part of the visit. Worn parts or longer repairs are quoted to you first and only carried out once you agree. The service report records the fault so it can be tracked at later visits.

How often should doors in Bedfordshire be serviced?

There is no fixed legal interval. We recommend a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with the interval set by the manufacturer's instructions and how heavily the door is used. Busy entrances, such as shops and surgeries, are often serviced every six months.

Can you price a repair in Bedfordshire from photos?

Sometimes. Clear photos of the door, the operator cover and any label showing the make and model, plus a description of what the door is doing, can let us price a likely repair before a visit. Where the cause is not obvious, we agree a diagnostic visit price in writing first and quote the repair afterwards.

Which makes of automatic door can you work on in Bedfordshire?

Engineers working under our management work on most makes of automatic door, including sliding, swing, folding, telescopic and revolving types. Some older or obsolete operators have limited parts availability. If that applies, we explain the options, which may include a replacement drive unit on the existing frame, and quote them before anything is ordered.

Can a home in Bedfordshire get help paying for a door opener?

Possibly. In England a Disabled Facilities Grant of up to £30,000 can fund adaptations that make it easier to get in and out of a home. It is means-tested and must be approved by the council before work starts, so ask your council and occupational therapist.
