What to think about for automatic door repairs in Buckinghamshire

  • A door with battery backup may show a fault, or fail to open in a power cut, when its battery is worn out. Batteries are a routine replacement part rather than a major repair.
  • Opening hours matter when booking a repair in Buckinghamshire. If your premises close early or open late, mention it so the engineer can work while the entrance is quiet.
  • Busy high street shops in Buckinghamshire lose trade quickly when the entrance fails. Keep the programme switch key where staff can find it, so the door can be set to a safe mode while you wait.
  • Leisure centres, schools and public buildings in Buckinghamshire may need a contractor induction or permit before work starts. Send any site rules with your booking so the visit can go ahead first time.
  • Grit and stones in the floor guide are a frequent cause of doors sticking or stopping short. Sweeping the threshold and track area regularly prevents many breakdowns.

Standards and rules in England

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.

No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend that a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer’s instructions and how heavily the door is used, and that someone on site carries out simple regular checks and keeps a record.

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

How it works

  1. Explain the problem. Whether the door is stuck, slow, noisy or due its next check, a short description and a few photos tell us which kind of visit to book for automatic door repairs and what to bring.
  2. Visit cost agreed. You get the visit price in writing before we book the engineer. There are no hidden extras: parts and further work are always quoted separately and in advance.
  3. Engineer on site. The engineer inspects the operator, sensors, tracks and leaves, carries out the repair or service, and runs the door through its safety tests before it goes back into use.
  4. Follow-up quoted. You are sent a record of the visit. If something else needs attention, we quote it in writing; for doors on a service plan, the next visit date is noted on the record.

Get your entrance working again. Describe the fault at your premises in Buckinghamshire and we will tell you what the visit costs and when an engineer can attend.

Automatic door repairs in Buckinghamshire: questions

Do you repair automatic doors in Buckinghamshire?

Yes. We take the booking, agree the price and manage the job, and the visit in Buckinghamshire is made by a specialist automatic door engineer working under our management. The engineers we send work on sliding, swing, folding and revolving doors from most makers, including doors we did not install. The visit price is confirmed with you in writing before the engineer is booked.

What will automatic door repairs in Buckinghamshire cost?

Our guide starts from £95 excluding VAT (visit including the first hour), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £114 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Buckinghamshire, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

What if my door in Buckinghamshire cannot be repaired?

If a drive unit is obsolete, or a repair would cost close to a new operator, the engineer explains why. A new drive unit can usually be fitted to the existing frame and leaves, which costs far less than a whole new door. You receive a written quote for that, and whether to go ahead is entirely your choice.

How soon can an engineer get to my door in Buckinghamshire?

That depends on engineer availability around Buckinghamshire when you contact us, so we do not promise a time. Tell us whether the door is stuck open, stuck shut or unsafe, and we will tell you the earliest visit we can offer. Meanwhile, set the door to a safe mode and keep people away from the leaves.

How is the visit price set for work in Buckinghamshire?

We agree the visit price with you in writing before an engineer attends. It is based on the type of door, the work requested and the location. If parts or further work are needed once the engineer has found the cause, those are quoted before they are done, so the cost never moves without your agreement.

Which makes of automatic door can you work on in Buckinghamshire?

Engineers working under our management work on most makes of automatic door, including sliding, swing, folding, telescopic and revolving types. Some older or obsolete operators have limited parts availability. If that applies, we explain the options, which may include a replacement drive unit on the existing frame, and quote them before anything is ordered.

Do businesses in Buckinghamshire have to fit automatic doors?

No law says every building must have automatic doors. Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and building regulations guidance in England calls for a powered door where an entrance door would otherwise be too heavy to open. An automatic door is often the simplest way to meet both.
