Coverage across Gloucestershire
Not every part of Gloucestershire is easy to reach, and some sites need planning around access, parking or opening hours. We take that into account when arranging accessible door operators, and the engineer, working under our management, arrives with what the job is likely to need. The towns below, 7 in all, each have their own page, but any address in the area can be covered.
Towns listed in Gloucestershire: Gloucester, Cheltenham, Stroud, Kingswood, Yate, Tewkesbury, Cirencester.
What to think about for accessible door operators in Gloucestershire
- Accessible toilets need a pad inside and out, a lock button that disables the outside pad while the room is in use, and a way for staff to open the door in an emergency.
- If the door is a fire door, find its rating or records before the survey. Fixings and cabling must respect the rating, and the operator must release the door on the fire alarm.
- Place push pads where a wheelchair user can reach them without the door swinging into them. That often means mounting a pad on a post or a side wall rather than on the frame.
- Doors in exposed spots around Gloucestershire can be caught by the wind. A low-energy operator has limited force, so the survey checks whether the door will open and close reliably on a gusty day.
- Power is usually taken from a fused spur near the head of the door. If there is no supply close by, allow for an electrician to run one, ideally hidden in trunking or the wall.

Standards and rules in England
Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. Fitting an automatic door helps, but does not on its own guarantee those duties are met.
Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.
Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.
How it works
- Tell us about the entrance. Send the address, a few photos and a rough size of the opening, and say how the door is used. That is enough for us to suggest options for accessible door operators and book a survey in Gloucestershire.
- Free site survey. A specialist engineer working under our management measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power, and talks through how people use the entrance. There is no charge and no obligation.
- Fixed written quote. You receive a fixed, itemised written quote with the specification, lead time, payment stages and warranty terms. The price does not change unless the scope does, and any change is agreed in writing first.
- Installation and handover. The door is fitted on the agreed dates, then set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown the controls and the simple checks to make, and receive the handover paperwork.
Book a free survey for the door that is causing problems in Gloucestershire, and we will send a fixed, itemised quote for an accessible operator and push pads.
Accessible door operators in Gloucestershire: questions
Who will fit the operator at our building in Gloucestershire?
The engineer will be a specialist working under our management. We are the contracting party, so the quote, the warranty terms and any follow-up all come through us. Before handover, the door is set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005.
What price range should I expect for accessible door operators in Gloucestershire?
Our guide is £1,795 to £2,995 excluding VAT (per single door), the same guide prices we use across the UK. The free site survey in Gloucestershire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Our building in Gloucestershire is listed. Can we still have an operator?
Often, yes. Low-energy operators are compact and can sometimes be mounted on the inside face, with cabling hidden. Listed building consent may still be needed for fixings or new switches, so check with the planning authority. We can supply product details for an application.
Can you fit an accessible operator to a door at our surgery in Gloucestershire?
Yes, in most cases. We check the door, hinges, frame and the wall above at a free survey, then quote a fixed price for the operator, push pads and any repairs needed first. Fitting usually takes half a day to a day per door, planned around your opening hours.
Can installation in Gloucestershire happen outside opening hours?
Yes. Many shops, surgeries and offices prefer work early in the morning, in the evening or at weekends, when the entrance is quietest. Tell us your constraints when you enquire and they are built into the plan. Any extra cost for out-of-hours work is shown in the written quote rather than added afterwards.
Will the building stay secure while the entrance is being changed?
We plan to keep the entrance usable or secure throughout. Where a door has to come out, the work is sequenced so the opening is closed up before the engineer leaves, or a temporary door or hoarding is arranged when a longer gap cannot be avoided. How this is handled for your site in Gloucestershire is agreed before work starts.
Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in Gloucestershire?
In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
