Touch-free and push-button activation in Northamptonshire

For homes in Northamptonshire, activation is about what the person can manage: a wall button, a fob, a wristband or a switch on a wheelchair. We look at how they move around the house, then set up controls that suit.

What to think about for touch-free and push-button activation in Northamptonshire

  • Homes in Northamptonshire often need controls for more than one person. Carers, family and the person using the door may each need their own fob or button.
  • Look at where people approach the door from. A switch that can only be reached once someone is already at the door, or in the leaf's path, is in the wrong place.
  • Washrooms and accessible toilets in Northamptonshire need the inside switch paired with a lock button and an emergency release, so the room can be used privately and safely.
  • Clinics and surgeries in Northamptonshire often want touch-free switches on every door patients use. Sealed switch faces that stand up to cleaning products are worth specifying.
  • Doors next to busy walkways can open for every passer-by on a motion sensor. A wave switch or push pad on that side may cut false openings and heat loss.

Standards and rules in England

Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. Fitting an automatic door helps, but does not on its own guarantee those duties are met.

Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.

How it works

  1. Send photos and the address. A few pictures of the door from both sides, the address in Northamptonshire and a note of who uses the entrance help us understand the job before anyone visits the site.
  2. No-cost survey on site. We arrange a survey at a time that suits the building. The engineer records measurements, fixings and power, plus any constraints such as listed status, opening hours or access for deliveries.
  3. Itemised quote to approve. We price every element of the work on touch-free and push-button activation separately in a written quote that you can check, share and approve. Lead time and payment stages are stated, and nothing is ordered until you accept.
  4. Fit, test and hand over. On the agreed dates the engineer installs the equipment, commissions the operator and tests each safety function. You get a demonstration, the test record and any conformity paperwork that applies to the work.

Tell us which doors need better controls at your building in Northamptonshire, and we will arrange a free survey and a fixed quote for each device.

Touch-free and push-button activation in Northamptonshire: questions

Do touch-free switches work in cold or wet weather in Northamptonshire?

Switches for outdoor use are sealed against rain and rated for outdoor temperatures. In exposed spots, a hood or a sheltered position helps. If a switch is outside, we specify one made for that rather than an indoor model, and check it is easy to see and reach in poor light.

What do you charge for touch-free and push-button activation in Northamptonshire?

Our guide starts from £145 excluding VAT (per switch fitted), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £174 including VAT. The free site survey in Northamptonshire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Can you add touch-free switches to our automatic doors in Northamptonshire?

Usually, yes. Most operators have spare inputs for extra devices. We check the door, operator and wiring route at a free survey, then quote a fixed price for the switches and fitting. Wireless switches are an option where running cables would be difficult.

Our door in Northamptonshire keeps opening for passers-by. Can you fix it?

Usually, by adjusting or narrowing the sensor field, or by changing to a switch on that side. If the sensor is old or faulty, it may need replacing. A visit to adjust or replace a sensor is priced in writing before anyone attends, as that is care work.

How are payments structured for work in Northamptonshire?

Payment stages are set out in the quote before you accept it. Larger or made-to-order jobs may involve a deposit and a balance on completion, while smaller jobs may be invoiced once the work is finished. Nothing is charged for the survey itself, and the terms you accept are the terms that apply.

What does the free site survey in Northamptonshire involve?

An engineer working under our management visits the building, measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power supply, and looks at how people use the entrance. The survey is free and carries no obligation. Afterwards you receive a fixed, itemised written quote for touch-free and push-button activation, with drawings where the door type needs them.

Can a home in Northamptonshire get help paying for a door opener?

Possibly. In England a Disabled Facilities Grant of up to £30,000 can fund adaptations that make it easier to get in and out of a home. It is means-tested and must be approved by the council before work starts, so ask your council and occupational therapist.
