Coverage across Northamptonshire

Our coverage of Northamptonshire is not tied to a depot or a showroom. Engineers who carry out automatic internal doors for us travel to each site, so a farm shop down a country lane goes through the same process as a city-centre office. Every job is priced in writing before work starts, and the town list below currently numbers 6.

Towns listed in Northamptonshire: Northampton, Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough, Rushden, Daventry.

What to think about for automatic internal doors in Northamptonshire

  • Hospitals in Northamptonshire usually have estates teams with their own standards for door widths, controls and fire alarm interfaces. Share those early so the quote matches them.
  • Plan the work around the building's routine. Clinical areas, classrooms and kitchens in Northamptonshire may need out-of-hours working, which should be agreed and priced up front.
  • Infection control rules may set what materials and controls can be used. Wipe-clean surfaces and sealed switches that stand up to cleaning products are worth specifying.
  • Doors linked to the fire alarm need a signal from the alarm panel. Allow time for your fire alarm contractor to provide the connection and test it with us.
  • Schools and colleges in Northamptonshire often prefer corridor work in the holidays. Book the survey early in the term before, so doors and operators can be ordered and delivered in time.

Standards and rules in England

Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. Fitting an automatic door helps, but does not on its own guarantee those duties are met.

Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.

How it works

  1. Get in touch. Call, email or use the form with the address and what you have in mind. If you are not sure which type of door suits, describe the entrance and we will suggest the options worth considering.
  2. Survey and advice. The survey costs nothing and carries no obligation. The engineer checks the site and explains which options suit the entrance, the people using it and the budget, before anything is priced.
  3. Quote in writing. You receive a fixed, itemised quote for automatic internal doors in Northamptonshire, covering equipment, installation, testing and handover, with the lead time and payment stages set out clearly.
  4. Install, test, explain. The engineer installs and commissions the door, tests the sensors, safety functions and emergency behaviour, and walks you through the controls. The handover pack records what was installed and tested.

Send us a list of the doors and how they are used, and we will plan automatic internal doors for your building in Northamptonshire.

Automatic internal doors in Northamptonshire: questions

Can internal doors at our offices in Northamptonshire be linked to access control?

Yes. Card readers, fob readers or keypads can control who passes into staff areas, and the door opens automatically once access is granted. Locks release on the fire alarm where the fire strategy requires, and we can connect to an existing access control system or supply a standalone one.

Is there a guide price for automatic internal doors in Northamptonshire?

Our guide starts from £1,795 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Northamptonshire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Do you work in hospitals in Northamptonshire?

Yes. We work to the estates team's requirements for door widths, controls, infection control and fire alarm interfaces, and provide method statements, insurance details and the documents they ask for. Work on wards is usually planned out of hours or in phases.

Do you supply internal sliding doors as well as swing operators in Northamptonshire?

Yes. Where there is wall space beside the opening, a sliding door keeps the corridor clear and gives a wide opening, which suits wards. Where there is not, or the door is a fire door, a swing operator is usually the better fit. The survey compares both.

Can automatic doors be fitted to a listed building in Northamptonshire?

Often, yes, but listed building consent is normally needed for changes that affect the character of the building, inside or out. Slim operators, concealed fixings and automating the existing door can all reduce the visual impact. Speak to the conservation officer at the local planning authority early; we can provide drawings and specifications to help.

What should I send before the survey in Northamptonshire?

A few photos of the door from inside and outside, rough measurements of the opening, the address and a note of how the entrance is used. If the door already has an operator, a photo of any label on it helps. With that, the engineer arrives prepared, the survey takes less of your time and we can put the quote for automatic internal doors together more easily.

Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in Northamptonshire?

In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
