Coverage across Cambridgeshire

Our coverage of Cambridgeshire is not tied to a depot or a showroom. Engineers who carry out touch-free and push-button activation for us travel to each site, so a farm shop down a country lane goes through the same process as a city-centre office. Every job is priced in writing before work starts, and the town list below currently numbers 7.

What to think about for touch-free and push-button activation in Cambridgeshire

  • Clinics and surgeries in Cambridgeshire often want touch-free switches on every door patients use. Sealed switch faces that stand up to cleaning products are worth specifying.
  • Listed buildings in Cambridgeshire may restrict new fixings on historic walls. Wireless switches mounted on posts or glazing can avoid cutting into original fabric, and are easy to move later.
  • Look at where people approach the door from. A switch that can only be reached once someone is already at the door, or in the leaf's path, is in the wrong place.
  • Car parks and drop-off points in Cambridgeshire benefit from a switch on a post, so drivers and passengers can open the door before they reach it.
  • Homes in Cambridgeshire often need controls for more than one person. Carers, family and the person using the door may each need their own fob or button.

Standards and rules in England

Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. Fitting an automatic door helps, but does not on its own guarantee those duties are met.

Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.

How it works

  1. Describe what you need. Whether the job is touch-free and push-button activation for a busy entrance or for a single internal door, a brief description and some photos let us understand it and plan a survey visit in Cambridgeshire.
  2. Free visit to the site. An engineer working under our management assesses the opening, the existing door and frame, the floor and the electrical supply, and notes any access, consent or timing issues to plan around.
  3. Your fixed quotation. The quote is fixed for the work it describes and lists each item, including any removal, making good and electrical work. It also states the lead time, the payment stages and the warranty terms.
  4. Fitting and sign-off. Work goes ahead on dates agreed with you. Once fitted, the door is adjusted and its safety functions are tested and recorded with reference to BS EN 16005, and you are shown how to use it.

Ask for a fixed price on touch-free switches, push pads or fobs in Cambridgeshire. The survey is free and nothing is fitted until you accept the quote.

Touch-free and push-button activation in Cambridgeshire: questions

Can you move a push pad that is in the wrong place at our building in Cambridgeshire?

Yes. Moving a pad to a side wall or a post, away from the swinging leaf, often makes a big difference for wheelchair users. We set the new position at survey, quote the work, and test the door with the pad in its new place before we leave.

What is the guide price for touch-free and push-button activation in Cambridgeshire?

Our guide starts from £145 excluding VAT (per switch fitted), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £174 including VAT. The free site survey in Cambridgeshire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Can you add touch-free switches to our automatic doors in Cambridgeshire?

Usually, yes. Most operators have spare inputs for extra devices. We check the door, operator and wiring route at a free survey, then quote a fixed price for the switches and fitting. Wireless switches are an option where running cables would be difficult.

How long does it take to fit activation devices in Cambridgeshire?

Lead time is typically 1 to 3 weeks for the devices. On site, a single switch usually takes an hour or two, and a full set for several doors may take a day. We give the expected time on site with the quote.

Do you service doors in Cambridgeshire after installing them?

Yes. We recommend a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer's instructions and how heavily the door is used; busy doors are often serviced more often. Servicing can follow on from the installation, with the price agreed in writing and a record left after every visit.

Can automatic doors be fitted to a listed building in Cambridgeshire?

Often, yes, but listed building consent is normally needed for changes that affect the character of the building, inside or out. Slim operators, concealed fixings and automating the existing door can all reduce the visual impact. Speak to the conservation officer at the local planning authority early; we can provide drawings and specifications to help.

Do businesses in Cambridgeshire have to fit automatic doors?

No law says every building must have automatic doors. Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and building regulations guidance in England calls for a powered door where an entrance door would otherwise be too heavy to open. An automatic door is often the simplest way to meet both.
