Covering March and nearby

Sites across the PE15 postcode district are visited by specialist automatic door engineers working under our management. They travel to March for touch-free and push-button activation as bookings come in, so dates depend on the diary rather than a fixed local team, and we give you the earliest date we can offer when you book.

In March, automatic door needs often centre on the high street: independent shops, pharmacies, banks, cafés and estate agents. Frontages are often narrow, so the choice is usually between a compact sliding door, a folding door or a swing operator on the existing door.

Nearby towns we also list for touch-free and push-button activation (straight-line distance): Wisbech (8.5 miles), Ely (12.8 miles), Peterborough (14.2 miles), King's Lynn (18.9 miles), Spalding (19.1 miles), Huntingdon (19.2 miles).

What to think about for touch-free and push-button activation in March

  • Doors next to busy walkways can open for every passer-by on a motion sensor. A wave switch or push pad on that side may cut false openings and heat loss.
  • Clinics and surgeries in March often want touch-free switches on every door patients use. Sealed switch faces that stand up to cleaning products are worth specifying.
  • Washrooms and accessible toilets in March need the inside switch paired with a lock button and an emergency release, so the room can be used privately and safely.
  • Car parks and drop-off points in March benefit from a switch on a post, so drivers and passengers can open the door before they reach it.
  • Shops on high streets in March may want the door to open for customers but not for people walking past outside. Narrowing the sensor field or adding a switch helps.

Standards and rules in England

Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.

How it works

  1. Start with a short enquiry. Use the form, phone or email. Tell us whether the work is a new door, an upgrade or an opener for a home, and we arrange the next step for your site in March.
  2. Measured survey. The free survey confirms what will fit and what the entrance needs: opening width, door type, activation, safety sensors and behaviour on power loss or fire alarm, matched to how the building is used.
  3. Written price, no surprises. A fixed, itemised quote sets out the specification, the work involved, the expected lead time and the warranty terms. You can ask questions or change the specification before accepting it.
  4. Installed and commissioned. The door is installed with as little disruption as possible, then set up and tested for its hazard zones. Before leaving, the engineer explains the controls and hands over the documents for your records.

Book a free visit in March and we will recommend activation for each side of each door, then send a written quote.

Touch-free and push-button activation in March: questions

Can you move a push pad that is in the wrong place at our building in March?

Yes. Moving a pad to a side wall or a post, away from the swinging leaf, often makes a big difference for wheelchair users. We set the new position at survey, quote the work, and test the door with the pad in its new place before we leave.

How are prices worked out for touch-free and push-button activation in March?

Our guide starts from £145 excluding VAT (per switch fitted), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £174 including VAT. The free site survey in March confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Can you add touch-free switches to our automatic doors in March?

Usually, yes. Most operators have spare inputs for extra devices. We check the door, operator and wiring route at a free survey, then quote a fixed price for the switches and fitting. Wireless switches are an option where running cables would be difficult.

How long does it take to fit activation devices in March?

Lead time is typically 1 to 3 weeks for the devices. On site, a single switch usually takes an hour or two, and a full set for several doors may take a day. We give the expected time on site with the quote.

Can installation in March happen outside opening hours?

Yes. Many shops, surgeries and offices prefer work early in the morning, in the evening or at weekends, when the entrance is quietest. Tell us your constraints when you enquire and they are built into the plan. Any extra cost for out-of-hours work is shown in the written quote rather than added afterwards.

What happens to the old door when a new one is fitted in March?

If the work replaces an existing door, frame or operator, removal and disposal are listed in the quote. The old door comes out only when the new one is ready to go in, so the opening is not left empty for longer than necessary. Making good to the surrounding wall, floor or ceiling is included where the quote says so.

Do businesses in March have to fit automatic doors?

No law says every building must have automatic doors. Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and building regulations guidance in England calls for a powered door where an entrance door would otherwise be too heavy to open. An automatic door is often the simplest way to meet both.
