Covering March and nearby
Homes, businesses and public buildings throughout the PE15 postcode district can arrange access control for automatic doors with us. We are the contracting party and organise every visit; the engineer, who works under our management, travels in to March for the job rather than working from premises in town.
Small offices, community centres and village halls around March tend to have one main entrance, often used by visitors who need level access without steps. Automating the existing door, rather than replacing it, is frequently the most practical and affordable route.

What to think about for access control for automatic doors in March
- Healthcare sites in March often control access to wards and staff areas. Think about how visitors, porters and emergency teams will get through at every hour.
- Doors on escape routes need locks that release on alarm and on power loss. Check the fire strategy, or ask your fire risk assessor, before choosing a lock.
- Think about lost cards and leavers. A system that lets you remove a card centrally is easier to run than a shared keypad code on a busy site.
- Residential blocks in March usually have a managing agent or housing provider who sets the rules for fobs, visitors and fire alarm behaviour. Involve them early.
- Older automatic doors in March may not have inputs for access control. The survey checks this, and an older operator may need upgrading or replacing before readers can be linked.

Standards and rules in England
Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. Fitting an automatic door helps, but does not on its own guarantee those duties are met.
Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.
How it works
- Describe what you need. Whether the job is access control for automatic doors for a busy entrance or for a single internal door, a brief description and some photos let us understand it and plan a survey visit in March.
- Free visit to the site. An engineer working under our management assesses the opening, the existing door and frame, the floor and the electrical supply, and notes any access, consent or timing issues to plan around.
- Your fixed quotation. The quote is fixed for the work it describes and lists each item, including any removal, making good and electrical work. It also states the lead time, the payment stages and the warranty terms.
- Fitting and sign-off. Work goes ahead on dates agreed with you. Once fitted, the door is adjusted and its safety functions are tested and recorded with reference to BS EN 16005, and you are shown how to use it.

Access control for automatic doors in March: questions
Our automatic door in March is quite old. Can access control still be added?
Sometimes. Older operators may not have suitable inputs, or may not support an electric lock. The survey checks this, and if the operator needs upgrading first, the quote shows the cost of both, so you can decide. An older door may also benefit from a safety inspection at the same time.
What will access control for automatic doors in March cost?
Our guide starts from £795 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in March confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Can you fit fob entry to a residential block in March?
Yes. We can fit fob readers and video entry to an automatic communal door, set up so residents use fobs and visitors call the flat. Fire alarm and power-loss behaviour are agreed with the managing agent or housing provider before we commission the door.
Will our door in March still release when the fire alarm sounds?
On an escape route, yes. Locks are wired to release on the fire alarm signal and, where the fire strategy requires it, the door opens and holds open. We test this with your fire alarm contractor at handover and record the result.
What does the free site survey in March involve?
An engineer working under our management visits the building, measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power supply, and looks at how people use the entrance. The survey is free and carries no obligation. Afterwards you receive a fixed, itemised written quote for access control for automatic doors, with drawings where the door type needs them.
How much disruption should we expect while the work is done in March?
Most installations take one visit or a short series of visits, with dust and noise kept to the area around the door. The engineer screens off the work area, keeps a route in or out where possible and clears up before leaving. Larger entrances, lobbies or structural changes take longer, and the quote explains how that work is phased.
Do businesses in March have to fit automatic doors?
No law says every building must have automatic doors. Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and building regulations guidance in England calls for a powered door where an entrance door would otherwise be too heavy to open. An automatic door is often the simplest way to meet both.
