Coverage across Cambridgeshire

Our coverage of Cambridgeshire is not tied to a depot or a showroom. Engineers who carry out automatic internal doors for us travel to each site, so a farm shop down a country lane goes through the same process as a city-centre office. Every job is priced in writing before work starts, and the town list below currently numbers 7.

Towns listed in Cambridgeshire: Peterborough, Cambridge, Wisbech, St Neots, Huntingdon, March, Ely.

What to think about for automatic internal doors in Cambridgeshire

  • Lightweight stud partitions may not carry an operator without extra support. The survey checks what the wall is made of and what reinforcement is needed.
  • Care homes in Cambridgeshire often have residents with dementia. Think about which doors should open freely and which should be controlled, and agree that as a care decision before choosing controls.
  • Plan the work around the building's routine. Clinical areas, classrooms and kitchens in Cambridgeshire may need out-of-hours working, which should be agreed and priced up front.
  • Offices in Cambridgeshire with open-plan floors often have corridor fire doors that are held open by wedges. A proper hold-open device or operator removes the wedge and keeps the door working as a fire door.
  • Noise matters on wards and in bedrooms. Ask for night settings or quieter operators on doors near where people sleep, and check how loud any electric locks are when they release.

Standards and rules in England

Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. Fitting an automatic door helps, but does not on its own guarantee those duties are met.

Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.

How it works

  1. Describe what you need. Whether the job is automatic internal doors for a busy entrance or for a single internal door, a brief description and some photos let us understand it and plan a survey visit in Cambridgeshire.
  2. Free visit to the site. An engineer working under our management assesses the opening, the existing door and frame, the floor and the electrical supply, and notes any access, consent or timing issues to plan around.
  3. Your fixed quotation. The quote is fixed for the work it describes and lists each item, including any removal, making good and electrical work. It also states the lead time, the payment stages and the warranty terms.
  4. Fitting and sign-off. Work goes ahead on dates agreed with you. Once fitted, the door is adjusted and its safety functions are tested and recorded with reference to BS EN 16005, and you are shown how to use it.

Send us a list of the doors and how they are used, and we will plan automatic internal doors for your building in Cambridgeshire.

Automatic internal doors in Cambridgeshire: questions

How disruptive is the work in an occupied building in Cambridgeshire?

Usually less than people expect. Most swing operators take half a day to a day per door, and sliding doors a little longer. We plan the order of work to keep routes open, control dust, and agree any out-of-hours working in the quote.

How much should I budget for automatic internal doors in Cambridgeshire?

Our guide starts from £1,795 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Cambridgeshire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Do you work in hospitals in Cambridgeshire?

Yes. We work to the estates team's requirements for door widths, controls, infection control and fire alarm interfaces, and provide method statements, insurance details and the documents they ask for. Work on wards is usually planned out of hours or in phases.

Can you fit automatic doors in a school in Cambridgeshire?

Yes. Corridor fire doors, dining halls and doors to accessible facilities are common. We usually plan the work for school holidays or after hours, and agree the programme with the school in writing so safeguarding and fire arrangements are maintained throughout.

What power supply is needed for automatic internal doors in Cambridgeshire?

Most powered doors need a fused spur close to the operator, and some activation and access control devices also need a low-voltage link. The survey checks what is already there. If a new supply is required, the quote says whether we arrange it or your own electrician does, so nothing is left unclear on the day.

Can automatic doors be fitted to a listed building in Cambridgeshire?

Often, yes, but listed building consent is normally needed for changes that affect the character of the building, inside or out. Slim operators, concealed fixings and automating the existing door can all reduce the visual impact. Speak to the conservation officer at the local planning authority early; we can provide drawings and specifications to help.

Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in Cambridgeshire?

In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
