Telescopic sliding doors in Shropshire

Telescopic doors stack two leaves behind each other, so an entrance in Shropshire can open wider than a standard sliding door would allow. Send us a photo and rough measurements, and we will book a free survey to confirm what is possible for your building.

Coverage across Shropshire

From large town centres to quiet villages, entrances across Shropshire vary a great deal, and the right approach to telescopic sliding doors varies with them. A surgery door used by patients with walking frames needs different settings from a supermarket entrance, so the engineer looks at the actual door first. The towns we list in this area currently number 4.

What to think about for telescopic sliding doors in Shropshire

  • Hospital and supermarket entrances in Shropshire that run for long hours put more wear on the extra rollers and belts of a telescopic door. Plan a servicing arrangement from the start rather than waiting for the first fault.
  • Power for the operator usually comes from a fused spur at the head of the door. Where the nearest supply is some distance away, plan for an electrician to run a new circuit before the fitting day.
  • A telescopic header is deeper than a standard one. In older buildings in Shropshire with low ceilings or decorative fanlights, the survey checks whether the header can sit above the opening or needs to be recessed.
  • Entrances across Shropshire that face the prevailing wind can suffer from leaves dragging or sensors reacting to blown debris. A canopy, a draught lobby or careful sensor set-up deals with most of these problems.
  • Entrances used by ambulances and patient transport in Shropshire benefit from a full-opening button for crews, while everyday visitors use a narrower partial opening that keeps the waiting area warmer.

Standards and rules in England

Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. New entrances and some alterations count as building work, so check with building control before the work is ordered.

How it works

  1. Start with a short enquiry. Use the form, phone or email. Tell us whether the work is a new door, an upgrade or an opener for a home, and we arrange the next step for your site in Shropshire.
  2. Measured survey. The free survey confirms what will fit and what the entrance needs: opening width, door type, activation, safety sensors and behaviour on power loss or fire alarm, matched to how the building is used.
  3. Written price, no surprises. A fixed, itemised quote sets out the specification, the work involved, the expected lead time and the warranty terms. You can ask questions or change the specification before accepting it.
  4. Installed and commissioned. The door is installed with as little disruption as possible, then set up and tested for its hazard zones. Before leaving, the engineer explains the controls and hands over the documents for your records.

Telescopic sliding doors in Shropshire: questions

How much wider will our entrance in Shropshire be with telescopic doors?

As a rough guide, a telescopic door gives about two-thirds of its overall width as clear opening, against about half for a standard sliding door. On a typical shop or surgery entrance that can mean an extra 300 to 600 mm. The survey drawing for your building in Shropshire shows the exact clear width before you commit.

How much should I budget for telescopic sliding doors in Shropshire?

Our guide starts from £6,995 excluding VAT (per door set), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Shropshire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Do we need to close our building in Shropshire while the door is fitted?

Usually not for long. Most telescopic entrances take one to two days on site, and the opening can be secured overnight. Where the entrance is the only way in, we plan the work around your hours, use another entrance if there is one, or work early or at weekends, with any extra cost shown in the quote.

Will a telescopic door in Shropshire work with our fire alarm?

It can. The operator can take a signal from the fire alarm panel so the door opens and stays open, or does whatever the fire strategy for the building requires. The panel connection is usually made by your alarm engineer, and the quote shows who is responsible for each part of the work.

How much disruption should we expect while the work is done in Shropshire?

Most installations take one visit or a short series of visits, with dust and noise kept to the area around the door. The engineer screens off the work area, keeps a route in or out where possible and clears up before leaving. Larger entrances, lobbies or structural changes take longer, and the quote explains how that work is phased.

What is the lead time for telescopic sliding doors in Shropshire?

Lead times depend on the door type and what has to be made to order. As a guide, operators and accessible door kits are typically two to four weeks from order, and complete sliding entrances typically four to eight weeks from drawing approval. Curved, revolving and hermetic doors usually take longer. The expected lead time is stated in your quote.

Do businesses in Shropshire have to fit automatic doors?

No law says every building must have automatic doors. Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and building regulations guidance in England calls for a powered door where an entrance door would otherwise be too heavy to open. An automatic door is often the simplest way to meet both.
