Safety inspections and risk assessments in Wiltshire

Inspections in Wiltshire are carried out by specialist automatic door engineers working under our management. They use a test body to check each sensor's coverage, observe the door in use and write up every door to the same format.

Coverage across Wiltshire

Multi-site organisations in Wiltshire, such as councils, housing providers, schools and health providers, can arrange safety inspections and risk assessments for every building through one contact. Each site gets its own written price and its own record. Smaller customers, from corner shops to private homes, follow exactly the same process. The towns we list here, 7 in all, appear below.

What to think about for safety inspections and risk assessments in Wiltshire

  • If the use of a building has changed, for example a unit in Wiltshire that has become a clinic or a gym, the door's original set-up may no longer suit its users.
  • Glass leaves need safety glazing and visible markings. Faded or missing manifestation is a common finding, and one of the quickest and cheapest to put right.
  • Care homes and hospitals in Wiltshire have users who move slowly or unpredictably. The inspection pays close attention to sensor coverage and door speeds where frail or confused people pass through.
  • Older shopfronts and listed buildings in Wiltshire may have narrow side screens and tight gaps that were thought acceptable when fitted. The report weighs what can reasonably be improved.
  • Shared entrances in office blocks and business parks in Wiltshire may serve several tenants. Agree who holds the report and who pays for upgrades before booking.

Standards and rules in England

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.

No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend that a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer’s instructions and how heavily the door is used, and that someone on site carries out simple regular checks and keeps a record.

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

How it works

  1. Make contact. Phone, email or use the form. Tell us the type of door, what it is doing and whether it is safe to use, so the right visit for safety inspections and risk assessments can be planned.
  2. Written visit price. The cost of attending is agreed in writing before the visit is booked. For a planned service or inspection, the price per door and what each visit includes are set out at the same time.
  3. On-site work. The engineer, working under our management, checks the door from end to end, deals with the fault or the service, and tests every safety function and sensor setting before signing the door off.
  4. Report and quote. You receive a report of the findings. Where a repair, part or upgrade is recommended, it is quoted in writing so you can decide, and the door is left in a safe state if it cannot be used.

Book an automatic door safety inspection in Wiltshire. Tell us how many doors you have and how they are used, and we will confirm the price in writing.

Safety inspections and risk assessments in Wiltshire: questions

How often should doors in Wiltshire be risk assessed?

There is no set legal frequency. Most owners assess each door once, then repeat the assessment when the door is altered, when the people using it change or after an incident. In between, regular servicing keeps the safety functions checked, which in our view should happen at least once a year.

What will safety inspections and risk assessments in Wiltshire cost?

Our guide is £125 to £250 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide prices we use across the UK. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Wiltshire, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

Can an inspection in Wiltshire be combined with a service?

Yes, and it often makes sense. The engineer services the door, then carries out the risk assessment while on site, which saves a second visit. The combined price is agreed in writing before the visit, and you receive both the service record and the inspection report.

What if a door in Wiltshire is found to be unsafe?

The engineer explains the problem before leaving and may recommend switching the door to a safer mode until it is fixed. High-priority findings are flagged at the top of the report. We can quote the repair or upgrade straight away, or you can arrange it with another competent installer.

Are parts quoted before they are fitted?

Always. If a repair or service in Wiltshire needs parts, such as rollers, belts, sensors, a control board or a motor, we quote them in writing first. Some common parts may be on the engineer's van; others are ordered once you accept the quote and fitted on a return visit at a price already agreed.

Do you offer service contracts in Wiltshire?

Yes. A service contract sets out how many visits a year each door receives, what each visit includes and the price, all agreed in writing before you sign. Contracts suit sites with several doors or busy entrances, because visits are planned ahead and the records stay in one place. Contract length and notice terms are shown in the agreement.

Do businesses in Wiltshire have to fit automatic doors?

No law says every building must have automatic doors. Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and building regulations guidance in England calls for a powered door where an entrance door would otherwise be too heavy to open. An automatic door is often the simplest way to meet both.
