What to think about for revolving doors in Cornwall
- Automatic revolving doors need power to the canopy and links to the fire alarm and access control. Plan cable routes before ceilings are closed in.
- Hotel entrances in Cornwall see guests with large cases and families with pushchairs. A larger three-wing automatic door and a clearly signed pass door keep the flow moving.
- A revolving door needs a flat, level floor and often a recess for the bottom bearing and mat. Check whether the existing slab can be cut, or whether the floor needs building up.
- Tall buildings in Cornwall can pull a strong draught through an open entrance. A revolving door controls this better than sliding doors, which is one reason office towers use them.
- Planned servicing is essential on revolving doors because wing edges, stop buttons and sensors protect people on every turn. Budget for regular visits from the start, with each visit priced in writing.

Standards and rules in England
Building regulations guidance treats revolving doors as not accessible on their own, so an accessible powered swing or sliding door should be provided alongside. In England, fire safety law says sliding or revolving doors must not be used for exits specifically intended as emergency exits.
In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.
Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.
How it works
- Start with a short enquiry. Use the form, phone or email. Tell us whether the work is a new door, an upgrade or an opener for a home, and we arrange the next step for your site in Cornwall.
- Measured survey. The free survey confirms what will fit and what the entrance needs: opening width, door type, activation, safety sensors and behaviour on power loss or fire alarm, matched to how the building is used.
- Written price, no surprises. A fixed, itemised quote sets out the specification, the work involved, the expected lead time and the warranty terms. You can ask questions or change the specification before accepting it.
- Installed and commissioned. The door is installed with as little disruption as possible, then set up and tested for its hazard zones. Before leaving, the engineer explains the controls and hands over the documents for your records.
Send photos and any drawings of the entrance in Cornwall, and we will come back with options for a revolving door and an accessible pass door.
Revolving doors in Cornwall: questions
Who services a revolving door in Cornwall after installation?
We can, with each visit priced in writing before an engineer attends. Revolving doors should have their safety sensors, stop buttons and wing edges checked by a trained engineer at least once a year, and busy entrances usually need more frequent visits. Staff should also make simple daily checks and keep a record.
How much should I budget for revolving doors in Cornwall?
Our guide is £29,995 to £59,995 excluding VAT (per automatic door), the same guide prices we use across the UK. The free site survey in Cornwall confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Can our reception in Cornwall stay open during installation?
Usually, if there is a second entrance or the pass door can be fitted first. We stage the work so the building stays secure overnight and visitors are directed clearly. Where the revolving door is the only way in, we discuss weekend or out-of-hours working, with any extra cost shown in the quote.
Do we need a pass door beside a revolving door in Cornwall?
In practice, yes. A revolving door is not accessible on its own, so an accessible powered swing or sliding door should be provided alongside for wheelchair users, pushchairs, deliveries and anyone who needs it. It also usually forms part of the escape strategy. We design and quote both together.
What does the free site survey in Cornwall involve?
An engineer working under our management visits the building, measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power supply, and looks at how people use the entrance. The survey is free and carries no obligation. Afterwards you receive a fixed, itemised written quote for revolving doors, with drawings where the door type needs them.
Will the building stay secure while the entrance is being changed?
We plan to keep the entrance usable or secure throughout. Where a door has to come out, the work is sequenced so the opening is closed up before the engineer leaves, or a temporary door or hoarding is arranged when a longer gap cannot be avoided. How this is handled for your site in Cornwall is agreed before work starts.
Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in Cornwall?
In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
