What to think about for hermetic sliding doors in Dunbartonshire

  • The floor must be flat and continuous through the opening. Welded vinyl or resin floors should be completed or repaired before the door is fitted, so the bottom seal meets a true surface.
  • Infection control rules in hospitals across Dunbartonshire usually require screening, dust control and permits for work in clinical areas. Share your procedures at survey so they are built into the programme.
  • Choose finishes that stand up to the cleaning regime at your site in Dunbartonshire. Stainless steel and high-pressure laminate cope with strong disinfectants, but check the chemicals your cleaning team uses first.
  • Seals are consumable parts. Budget for regular inspection and replacement in the planned maintenance programme for each theatre or cleanroom, with visit prices agreed in writing.
  • Pharmacy aseptic units in Dunbartonshire may want doors that follow the colour coding of their clean zones. Leaf finishes can be chosen in a different colour for each grade of room.

Standards and rules in Scotland

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them.

In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

Glass in and beside doors must be safe where people could walk into it, and Scottish guidance puts markings on clear glass in two bands, 850 mm to 1.0 m and 1.4 m to 1.6 m above the floor.

How it works

  1. Describe what you need. Whether the job is hermetic sliding doors for a busy entrance or for a single internal door, a brief description and some photos let us understand it and plan a survey visit in Dunbartonshire.
  2. Free visit to the site. An engineer working under our management assesses the opening, the existing door and frame, the floor and the electrical supply, and notes any access, consent or timing issues to plan around.
  3. Your fixed quotation. The quote is fixed for the work it describes and lists each item, including any removal, making good and electrical work. It also states the lead time, the payment stages and the warranty terms.
  4. Fitting and sign-off. Work goes ahead on dates agreed with you. Once fitted, the door is adjusted and its safety functions are tested and recorded with reference to BS EN 16005, and you are shown how to use it.

Hermetic sliding doors in Dunbartonshire: questions

Can you supply lead-lined hermetic doors in Dunbartonshire?

Yes. Lead-lined leaves and frames are made to the lead equivalence your radiation protection adviser specifies, with the same seals, finishes and touch-free activation as other hermetic doors. The extra weight is allowed for in the operator and the fixings.

What is the guide price for hermetic sliding doors in Dunbartonshire?

Our guide starts from £8,995 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Dunbartonshire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Is the survey for a hermetic door in Dunbartonshire free?

Yes, for a new hermetic door the survey is free and there is no obligation. We measure the opening, check the wall and floor, discuss seals, finishes, activation and interlocks with your team, then send drawings and a fixed, itemised written quote.

Can you work within our infection control procedures in Dunbartonshire?

Yes. Work in clinical and cleanroom areas is planned around your permits, screening and dust control requirements, and around room shutdowns. Share your procedures at the survey and we will build them into the method statement and the programme for the installation.

Do I need permission from a landlord or the council before work in Dunbartonshire?

It depends on the building. Tenants usually need the landlord's written consent before changing an entrance, and some changes to a shopfront or external door need planning permission. The survey notes anything that may need consent. We can supply drawings and product details to support an application, but the owner or tenant makes it.

Is there a warranty on hermetic sliding doors?

Yes. The warranty terms for the equipment and the installation are set out in your written quote, so you can see exactly what is covered before you accept. Keeping the door serviced at the recommended intervals helps keep it in good order, and the quote explains any conditions that apply to the warranty.

Is a building warrant needed for a new automatic entrance in Dunbartonshire?

Often, yes. Most building work in Scotland needs a building warrant before it starts, and the non-domestic Technical Handbook sets out what an accessible entrance should provide, including a clear opening of at least 800 mm. We tell you at the survey if your job is likely to need one.
