Telescopic sliding doors in Wiltshire

Telescopic doors stack two leaves behind each other, so an entrance in Wiltshire can open wider than a standard sliding door would allow. Send us a photo and rough measurements, and we will book a free survey to confirm what is possible for your building.

Coverage across Wiltshire

Wherever you are in Wiltshire, we need the same three things to get started on telescopic sliding doors: a short description of the door, a few photos if you have them, and the address. From there we agree the price in writing and book a specialist engineer working under our management. Every town listed below has a page of its own, 7 in total.

What to think about for telescopic sliding doors in Wiltshire

  • Entrances used by ambulances and patient transport in Wiltshire benefit from a full-opening button for crews, while everyday visitors use a narrower partial opening that keeps the waiting area warmer.
  • Shop units in Wiltshire that trade late or open early may want installation outside trading hours. Early starts and weekend work can usually be arranged and are shown as a separate line in the quote.
  • Measure the widest thing that has to pass through, whether that is a hospital bed, a mobility scooter or a cage of stock. The clear opening of a telescopic door is chosen from that figure, not from the size of the old doorway.
  • Grit and leaves blown into the threshold collect in floor guide channels. Entrances facing a car park or open ground benefit from a matwell or canopy, which also keeps rain off the sensors.
  • Power for the operator usually comes from a fused spur at the head of the door. Where the nearest supply is some distance away, plan for an electrician to run a new circuit before the fitting day.

Standards and rules in England

Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. New entrances and some alterations count as building work, so check with building control before the work is ordered.

How it works

  1. Send photos and the address. A few pictures of the door from both sides, the address in Wiltshire and a note of who uses the entrance help us understand the job before anyone visits the site.
  2. No-cost survey on site. We arrange a survey at a time that suits the building. The engineer records measurements, fixings and power, plus any constraints such as listed status, opening hours or access for deliveries.
  3. Itemised quote to approve. We price every element of the work on telescopic sliding doors separately in a written quote that you can check, share and approve. Lead time and payment stages are stated, and nothing is ordered until you accept.
  4. Fit, test and hand over. On the agreed dates the engineer installs the equipment, commissions the operator and tests each safety function. You get a demonstration, the test record and any conformity paperwork that applies to the work.

Book a free site survey in Wiltshire, and an engineer will measure the opening and send a drawing with a fixed, itemised quote for telescopic sliding doors.

Telescopic sliding doors in Wiltshire: questions

Can our existing sliding door in Wiltshire be converted to telescopic?

Not usually by modifying the old door, because the header, tracks and leaves are different. It is normally replaced as a complete set within the same opening. The survey checks whether the existing structure and floor can take the new door, and the quote shows removal of the old one as a separate line.

What will telescopic sliding doors in Wiltshire cost?

Our guide starts from £6,995 excluding VAT (per door set), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Wiltshire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Do we need to close our building in Wiltshire while the door is fitted?

Usually not for long. Most telescopic entrances take one to two days on site, and the opening can be secured overnight. Where the entrance is the only way in, we plan the work around your hours, use another entrance if there is one, or work early or at weekends, with any extra cost shown in the quote.

Can you look after the door in Wiltshire once it is installed?

Yes. We can quote planned servicing for the new door, with each visit priced in writing beforehand and the interval set by how heavily the door is used and the manufacturer's instructions. Busy entrances such as hospitals and supermarkets are usually serviced more often than quieter offices.

What does the free site survey in Wiltshire involve?

An engineer working under our management visits the building, measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power supply, and looks at how people use the entrance. The survey is free and carries no obligation. Afterwards you receive a fixed, itemised written quote for telescopic sliding doors, with drawings where the door type needs them.

What do you need from us for parking and access in Wiltshire?

Somewhere for the engineer's van as close to the entrance as possible, and a clear working area around the door. If parking is restricted, loading rules apply or the site has security procedures, tell us when you book. Those details go into the plan so the visit is not held up on the day.

Do businesses in Wiltshire have to fit automatic doors?

No law says every building must have automatic doors. Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and building regulations guidance in England calls for a powered door where an entrance door would otherwise be too heavy to open. An automatic door is often the simplest way to meet both.
