Coverage across Suffolk
Not every part of Suffolk is easy to reach, and some sites need planning around access, parking or opening hours. We take that into account when arranging curved automatic doors, and the engineer, working under our management, arrives with what the job is likely to need. The towns below, 8 in all, each have their own page, but any address in the area can be covered.
Towns listed in Suffolk: Ipswich, Lowestoft, Bury St Edmunds, Haverhill, Felixstowe, Sudbury, Stowmarket, Newmarket.
What to think about for curved automatic doors in Suffolk
- Busy entrances with curved floor guides collect grit from the street. A good matwell and regular cleaning of the guide channels keep the leaves running smoothly around the arc.
- Listed buildings and conservation areas in Suffolk may need consent for a curved entrance. Drawings showing the radius, frame colour and canopy detail help the planning authority understand the proposal.
- The floor must be level across the whole arc, and the matwell and floor finish need cutting to the same radius as the guides. Coordinate the floor layer with the door programme so the curves match.
- Curved glass cannot be cut to size on site. Allow for the longer lead time in any refurbishment programme, and do not book shopfitters or floor layers for the entrance until the door has a delivery date.
- A half-round door often projects beyond the existing building line. In town centres around Suffolk, check early whether that affects the pavement, the highway boundary or the need for planning permission.

Standards and rules in England
Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.
In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.
Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. New entrances and some alterations count as building work, so check with building control before the work is ordered.
How it works
- Describe what you need. Whether the job is curved automatic doors for a busy entrance or for a single internal door, a brief description and some photos let us understand it and plan a survey visit in Suffolk.
- Free visit to the site. An engineer working under our management assesses the opening, the existing door and frame, the floor and the electrical supply, and notes any access, consent or timing issues to plan around.
- Your fixed quotation. The quote is fixed for the work it describes and lists each item, including any removal, making good and electrical work. It also states the lead time, the payment stages and the warranty terms.
- Fitting and sign-off. Work goes ahead on dates agreed with you. Once fitted, the door is adjusted and its safety functions are tested and recorded with reference to BS EN 16005, and you are shown how to use it.
Send us photos of the frontage in Suffolk and any drawings you have, and we will arrange a free survey for a curved automatic entrance.
Curved automatic doors in Suffolk: questions
Can you work with our architect or main contractor in Suffolk?
Yes. Many curved doors are part of a larger refurbishment or new build. We can work from the architect's setting-out drawings, agree the structural opening, canopy and floor details with the contractor, and fit the door at the right stage of the programme so finished floors and glazing are protected.
What price range should I expect for curved automatic doors in Suffolk?
Our guide starts from £14,995 excluding VAT (per entrance), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Suffolk confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Will we need planning permission for a curved entrance in Suffolk?
Possibly. A curved door that changes the look of the frontage or projects beyond the building line may need planning permission, and listed buildings may need listed building consent. Your local planning authority decides. We raise the question at survey and can supply drawings and product details for an application.
Can a curved door in Suffolk replace a revolving door?
In many cases, yes. A full-round curved door gives similar draught protection with a straight, open path through, which many visitors find easier than a revolving door. The survey checks whether the existing drum position, floor recess and canopy can be reused or need altering.
What does the free site survey in Suffolk involve?
An engineer working under our management visits the building, measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power supply, and looks at how people use the entrance. The survey is free and carries no obligation. Afterwards you receive a fixed, itemised written quote for curved automatic doors, with drawings where the door type needs them.
Is there a warranty on curved automatic doors?
Yes. The warranty terms for the equipment and the installation are set out in your written quote, so you can see exactly what is covered before you accept. Keeping the door serviced at the recommended intervals helps keep it in good order, and the quote explains any conditions that apply to the warranty.
Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in Suffolk?
In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
