Coverage across Essex
Our coverage of Essex is not tied to a depot or a showroom. Engineers who carry out safety and compliance upgrades for us travel to each site, so a farm shop down a country lane goes through the same process as a city-centre office. Every job is priced in writing before work starts, and the town list below currently numbers 24.

What to think about for safety and compliance upgrades in Essex
- If your building in Essex has one main entrance, battery backup lets the door open safely in a power cut, so there is always a way in and out.
- Listed buildings and conservation areas in Essex may limit visible changes. Slim sensors and discreet guards keep the look of the historic entrance largely unchanged.
- Busy retail and public buildings in Essex may prefer upgrade work out of hours. Most single-door upgrades are completed in one visit, so disruption is limited.
- Programme switches within reach of the public in Essex should be key-operated or protected, so the door cannot be left in an unsafe mode by mistake.
- Doors serving care homes and hospitals in Essex may need wider safety zones and gentler closing speeds for residents and patients who move slowly or need help.

Standards and rules in England
Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible. BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them.
Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.
Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.
How it works
- Describe what you need. Whether the job is safety and compliance upgrades for a busy entrance or for a single internal door, a brief description and some photos let us understand it and plan a survey visit in Essex.
- Free visit to the site. An engineer working under our management assesses the opening, the existing door and frame, the floor and the electrical supply, and notes any access, consent or timing issues to plan around.
- Your fixed quotation. The quote is fixed for the work it describes and lists each item, including any removal, making good and electrical work. It also states the lead time, the payment stages and the warranty terms.
- Fitting and sign-off. Work goes ahead on dates agreed with you. Once fitted, the door is adjusted and its safety functions are tested and recorded with reference to BS EN 16005, and you are shown how to use it.
Send us your inspection report for doors in Essex, and we will arrange a free survey and quote each upgrade as a separate item.
Safety and compliance upgrades in Essex: questions
Will you document the upgrades on our door in Essex?
Yes. You receive a record of what was fitted, the settings and the test results, linked to each finding in the inspection report. Keep it with your service records for insurers, landlords or anyone else who asks how the door's risks have been dealt with.
Is there a guide price for safety and compliance upgrades in Essex?
Our guide starts from £195 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Essex confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
How long do upgrades take at premises in Essex?
Most single-door upgrades take one visit of a few hours. Parts such as light curtains and battery units are typically 1 to 3 weeks to arrive after the quote is accepted. Larger packages are planned with you so the entrance stays usable wherever possible.
Do you carry out automatic door safety upgrades in Essex?
Yes. We quote and manage upgrade work in Essex, and the fitting is done by specialist automatic door engineers on our behalf. The survey is free, and each upgrade is priced separately on a fixed, itemised quote. After the work you receive a record of each change and its test results.
Can automatic doors be fitted to a listed building in Essex?
Often, yes, but listed building consent is normally needed for changes that affect the character of the building, inside or out. Slim operators, concealed fixings and automating the existing door can all reduce the visual impact. Speak to the conservation officer at the local planning authority early; we can provide drawings and specifications to help.
What do you need from us for parking and access in Essex?
Somewhere for the engineer's van as close to the entrance as possible, and a clear working area around the door. If parking is restricted, loading rules apply or the site has security procedures, tell us when you book. Those details go into the plan so the visit is not held up on the day.
Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in Essex?
In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
