What to think about for automatic door refurbishment in Essex
- High street doors in Essex often have scratched or etched glass from years of cleaning and graffiti. Replacing leaves with new safety glass restores a clean look.
- Older shopfronts with discontinued door systems may need equivalent parts rather than exact matches. The survey identifies what is still available before anything is ordered.
- After refurbishment, sensors and speeds are reset to suit the new parts. Keep the test record with your service history so later engineers can see what was done.
- Care settings in Essex benefit from level thresholds and smooth-running leaves that do not snag walking frames, trolleys or wheelchair footplates as people pass through.
- Floors around the door in Essex may be worn or uneven. New floor guides and thresholds sometimes need small areas of making good, which the quote lists separately.

Standards and rules in England
Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible. BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them.
Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.
Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.
How it works
- Tell us about the entrance. Send the address, a few photos and a rough size of the opening, and say how the door is used. That is enough for us to suggest options for automatic door refurbishment and book a survey in Essex.
- Free site survey. A specialist engineer working under our management measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power, and talks through how people use the entrance. There is no charge and no obligation.
- Fixed written quote. You receive a fixed, itemised written quote with the specification, lead time, payment stages and warranty terms. The price does not change unless the scope does, and any change is agreed in writing first.
- Installation and handover. The door is fitted on the agreed dates, then set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown the controls and the simple checks to make, and receive the handover paperwork.

Automatic door refurbishment in Essex: questions
Can refurbishment in Essex help with draughts and heating costs?
New seals and brush strips, and leaves that close fully, reduce draughts through a closed door. For very exposed entrances, a second set of doors forming a draught lobby may also be worth considering, and we can price both so you can compare the likely benefit.
Can you give me a price for automatic door refurbishment in Essex?
Our guide starts from £395 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Essex confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Is it worth refurbishing an old door at our premises in Essex?
If the frame is sound and the opening size still works, usually yes, as refurbishment costs far less than a new door. If the frame is corroded, the glass is not safety glass or the opening is too narrow, a new door may be better value, and the survey tells you which.
Will our entrance in Essex stay open during refurbishment?
Often, at least in part. Many jobs can be done one leaf at a time, and the work can be planned for quieter hours. If the entrance does need to close, the quote says for how long, so you can arrange another way in for staff and visitors.
Is there a warranty on automatic door refurbishment?
Yes. The warranty terms for the equipment and the installation are set out in your written quote, so you can see exactly what is covered before you accept. Keeping the door serviced at the recommended intervals helps keep it in good order, and the quote explains any conditions that apply to the warranty.
Can automatic doors be fitted to a listed building in Essex?
Often, yes, but listed building consent is normally needed for changes that affect the character of the building, inside or out. Slim operators, concealed fixings and automating the existing door can all reduce the visual impact. Speak to the conservation officer at the local planning authority early; we can provide drawings and specifications to help.
Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in Essex?
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person for the premises must make sure escape routes work and fire safety equipment is maintained. Automatic doors on an escape route need fail-safe opening or break-out, set by the fire strategy.
