What to think about for safety and compliance upgrades in County Armagh
- Very old controllers may not support modern monitored sensors. In that case a new drive unit with sensors can cost less than several separate upgrades.
- If your building in County Armagh has one main entrance, battery backup lets the door open safely in a power cut, so there is always a way in and out.
- After upgrades, keep the record with your inspection report. Matching each change to its finding shows the actions have been closed off, which insurers often ask to see.
- Shared entrances in office blocks need agreement on who pays for upgrades. The inspection report helps landlords and tenants agree the scope before work is ordered.
- Escape route doors must open, break out or be openable by hand as the fire strategy requires. Check what yours says before choosing which upgrades to make.

Standards and rules in Northern Ireland
Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible. BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them.
Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Northern Ireland machinery, including a new or converted powered door, carries the CE marking (with UKNI added where a UK body carried out the conformity assessment), and the EU Machinery Regulation applies there from 20 January 2027.
Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1993) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.
How it works
- Tell us about the entrance. Send the address, a few photos and a rough size of the opening, and say how the door is used. That is enough for us to suggest options for safety and compliance upgrades and book a survey in County Armagh.
- Free site survey. A specialist engineer working under our management measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power, and talks through how people use the entrance. There is no charge and no obligation.
- Fixed written quote. You receive a fixed, itemised written quote with the specification, lead time, payment stages and warranty terms. The price does not change unless the scope does, and any change is agreed in writing first.
- Installation and handover. The door is fitted on the agreed dates, then set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown the controls and the simple checks to make, and receive the handover paperwork.
Keep an older door in safe use. Arrange a free survey in County Armagh and receive a quote that lists every upgrade on its own line.
Safety and compliance upgrades in County Armagh: questions
Can upgrades in County Armagh be phased over time?
Yes. Each item is priced separately, so you can start with the high-priority findings and plan the rest for later, often at the next service visit. Your quote shows which items are urgent and which can sensibly wait, so you can budget for each phase.
How much should I budget for safety and compliance upgrades in County Armagh?
Our guide starts from £195 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in County Armagh confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Do you need an inspection before upgrading a door in County Armagh?
Not always. If you know what you need, such as a key switch or new signs, we can survey and quote for it directly. For a full picture of the door's risks, a documented safety inspection is the better starting point, and it is a separate service priced before the visit.
Will you document the upgrades on our door in County Armagh?
Yes. You receive a record of what was fitted, the settings and the test results, linked to each finding in the inspection report. Keep it with your service records for insurers, landlords or anyone else who asks how the door's risks have been dealt with.
What does the free site survey in County Armagh involve?
An engineer working under our management visits the building, measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power supply, and looks at how people use the entrance. The survey is free and carries no obligation. Afterwards you receive a fixed, itemised written quote for safety and compliance upgrades, with drawings where the door type needs them.
What does the written quote for safety and compliance upgrades in County Armagh include?
The quote lists each item separately: the door or equipment, installation, electrical connections where we provide them, removal of anything being replaced, testing and handover. It is a fixed price for the work described, so it does not change unless the scope changes, and any change is agreed with you in writing first.
What do the building regulations in Northern Ireland say about powered doors?
The Building Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012 require a powered door to have a means to prevent it trapping anyone and a means to open it if the power fails. Guidance on access is in Technical Booklet R, and new entrances need building control approval.
