Coverage across the Highlands
Coverage for automatic swing doors extends across all of the Highlands, including addresses some distance from the towns listed below. We are the contracting party, the engineers work under our management, and the price is agreed in writing first. If your town is not among the 6 we list, contact us anyway; the process and guide prices do not change.
Towns listed in the Highlands: Inverness, Fort William, Nairn, Thurso, Wick, Portree.
What to think about for automatic swing doors in the Highlands
- Electric locks must be coordinated with the operator, so the lock releases before the arm moves. Tell us about existing locks, card readers and intercoms at the survey.
- Fire doors need care. The operator must suit the door, keep its fire performance intact and close the door when the alarm sounds, so have the door's labels and records to hand for the survey.
- Check the hinges first. Older doors in the Highlands often have worn hinges that would fail under an operator, so the survey may recommend heavier hinges or pivots.
- Power comes from a fused spur near the head of the door. In older buildings in the Highlands with solid walls, allow time for surface trunking or chasing to reach the operator.
- Office buildings in the Highlands with access control can have doors that open automatically in working hours and only for card holders after hours, using a timer and the existing reader.

Standards and rules in Scotland
Scottish building standards guidance (the non-domestic Technical Handbook) expects an accessible entrance door to give a clear opening of at least 800 mm, says powered doors improve accessibility as long as they add no new hazard, and expects signage, sensors that hold the door open long enough, and guarding against collision or entrapment.
In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.
Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers in Scotland must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. Most building work in Scotland needs a building warrant before it starts, so new entrances are checked with the local authority verifier first.
How it works
- Send photos and the address. A few pictures of the door from both sides, the address in the Highlands and a note of who uses the entrance help us understand the job before anyone visits the site.
- No-cost survey on site. We arrange a survey at a time that suits the building. The engineer records measurements, fixings and power, plus any constraints such as listed status, opening hours or access for deliveries.
- Itemised quote to approve. We price every element of the work on automatic swing doors separately in a written quote that you can check, share and approve. Lead time and payment stages are stated, and nothing is ordered until you accept.
- Fit, test and hand over. On the agreed dates the engineer installs the equipment, commissions the operator and tests each safety function. You get a demonstration, the test record and any conformity paperwork that applies to the work.
Tell us how many doors you have in the Highlands, and whether they are single or double, and we will arrange a free survey.
Automatic swing doors in the Highlands: questions
Will the swing operator in the Highlands work with our fire alarm?
It can. Fire doors that are held open must close automatically when the fire alarm operates, and the operator can be linked to the alarm to do this. Other doors can be set to open on alarm where the fire strategy needs it. Your alarm engineer usually makes the panel connection.
Can you give me a price for automatic swing doors in the Highlands?
Our guide starts from £2,495 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in the Highlands confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Can you service swing doors in the Highlands after fitting?
Yes. We can arrange planned servicing, with each visit priced in writing before an engineer attends. A trained engineer should check the safety functions at least once a year, and busy corridors, schools and hospitals usually need more frequent visits. Staff should also carry out simple daily checks.
How quickly can a swing operator be fitted in the Highlands?
Operators for existing doors are typically 2 to 4 weeks from order. On site, a single door usually takes half a day to a day, and a pair about a day. We can plan work for evenings, weekends or holidays where the building is busy, with any extra cost shown in the quote.
What is the lead time for automatic swing doors in the Highlands?
Lead times depend on the door type and what has to be made to order. As a guide, operators and accessible door kits are typically two to four weeks from order, and complete sliding entrances typically four to eight weeks from drawing approval. Curved, revolving and hermetic doors usually take longer. The expected lead time is stated in your quote.
What happens to the old door when a new one is fitted in the Highlands?
If the work replaces an existing door, frame or operator, removal and disposal are listed in the quote. The old door comes out only when the new one is ready to go in, so the opening is not left empty for longer than necessary. Making good to the surrounding wall, floor or ceiling is included where the quote says so.
Is a building warrant needed for a new automatic entrance in the Highlands?
Often, yes. Most building work in Scotland needs a building warrant before it starts, and the non-domestic Technical Handbook sets out what an accessible entrance should provide, including a clear opening of at least 800 mm. We tell you at the survey if your job is likely to need one.
