Coverage across Cheshire

Multi-site organisations in Cheshire, such as councils, housing providers, schools and health providers, can arrange automatic swing doors for every building through one contact. Each site gets its own written price and its own record. Smaller customers, from corner shops to private homes, follow exactly the same process. The towns we list here, 13 in all, appear below.

What to think about for automatic swing doors in Cheshire

  • Power comes from a fused spur near the head of the door. In older buildings in Cheshire with solid walls, allow time for surface trunking or chasing to reach the operator.
  • External swing doors facing the wind need stronger operators and careful set-up. On exposed sites across Cheshire, consider whether a canopy or a sliding door would work better.
  • Doors that open into a corridor can strike people approaching from the side. Guard rails or extra sensors may be needed where the swing area meets a busy route.
  • Schools in Cheshire often prefer installation during half-term or the summer holidays. Operators are typically 2 to 4 weeks from order, so book the survey a few weeks before the break.
  • Fire doors need care. The operator must suit the door, keep its fire performance intact and close the door when the alarm sounds, so have the door's labels and records to hand for the survey.

Standards and rules in England

Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. New entrances and some alterations count as building work, so check with building control before the work is ordered.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the entrance. Send the address, a few photos and a rough size of the opening, and say how the door is used. That is enough for us to suggest options for automatic swing doors and book a survey in Cheshire.
  2. Free site survey. A specialist engineer working under our management measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power, and talks through how people use the entrance. There is no charge and no obligation.
  3. Fixed written quote. You receive a fixed, itemised written quote with the specification, lead time, payment stages and warranty terms. The price does not change unless the scope does, and any change is agreed in writing first.
  4. Installation and handover. The door is fitted on the agreed dates, then set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown the controls and the simple checks to make, and receive the handover paperwork.

Tell us how many doors you have in Cheshire, and whether they are single or double, and we will arrange a free survey.

Automatic swing doors in Cheshire: questions

Is the survey for swing doors in Cheshire free?

Yes, for new operators and doorsets the survey is free and carries no obligation. The engineer looks at each door, its hinges, frame, locks, power and fire labels, and you receive a fixed, itemised written quote for the work. Each door is priced separately, so the work can be phased if needed.

What will automatic swing doors in Cheshire cost?

Our guide starts from £2,495 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Cheshire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

What paperwork do we get for automated doors in Cheshire?

You receive the test record, a site-specific risk assessment, user instructions and the conformity paperwork for each door. When an existing manual door is motorised, whoever does it may take on the manufacturer's duties for the finished door, so the Declaration of Conformity and instructions are handed over at the end of the job.

Can you service swing doors in Cheshire after fitting?

Yes. We can arrange planned servicing, with each visit priced in writing before an engineer attends. A trained engineer should check the safety functions at least once a year, and busy corridors, schools and hospitals usually need more frequent visits. Staff should also carry out simple daily checks.

Can automatic doors be fitted to a listed building in Cheshire?

Often, yes, but listed building consent is normally needed for changes that affect the character of the building, inside or out. Slim operators, concealed fixings and automating the existing door can all reduce the visual impact. Speak to the conservation officer at the local planning authority early; we can provide drawings and specifications to help.

Can installation in Cheshire happen outside opening hours?

Yes. Many shops, surgeries and offices prefer work early in the morning, in the evening or at weekends, when the entrance is quietest. Tell us your constraints when you enquire and they are built into the plan. Any extra cost for out-of-hours work is shown in the written quote rather than added afterwards.

Do businesses in Cheshire have to fit automatic doors?

No law says every building must have automatic doors. Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and building regulations guidance in England calls for a powered door where an entrance door would otherwise be too heavy to open. An automatic door is often the simplest way to meet both.
