What to think about for automatic door servicing in Dyfed
- Doors on escape routes need their break-out or power-failure opening tested at every service. Tell us which doors serve escape routes so the engineer checks the right functions.
- Older doors in Dyfed may need parts replaced more often as they age. A service history that tracks wear helps you budget for repairs or a new drive unit before a breakdown.
- Care homes and hospitals in Dyfed often need visits planned around mealtimes, medication rounds and visiting hours, so the door is not out of use at the busiest times.
- Battery backup units wear out over time. Testing them at each service shows whether the door will still open or close safely in a power cut.
- Keep the programme switch key and any operator access keys on site. Engineers need them to change modes and test the door properly during the visit.

Standards and rules in Wales
Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.
No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend that a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer’s instructions and how heavily the door is used, and that someone on site carries out simple regular checks and keeps a record.
BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.
How it works
- Share the details. Send the address in Dyfed, the door type and make if you know it, and a description or video of the problem. For servicing, tell us how many doors there are and how busy each one is.
- Price confirmed in writing. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends. Some straightforward repairs can be priced in full from photos and the make and model of the door.
- Diagnosis and repair. A specialist engineer attends on the agreed date, finds the cause, repairs or services the door, and tests its operation, sensors and safety functions with reference to BS EN 16005.
- Written record. Each visit ends with a written record for your files. Anything still outstanding, such as parts on order or recommended upgrades, is quoted before any further work is done.
Book a planned service in Dyfed with the price agreed before the engineer arrives. A written report for each door follows the visit.
Automatic door servicing in Dyfed: questions
Do you service doors in Dyfed that another company installed?
Yes. We service most powered pedestrian doors, whoever fitted them. The first visit records each door's make, model, condition and any concerns, so later reports can be compared. If parts are no longer made for one of your doors, we let you know early so a replacement can be planned.
What do you charge for automatic door servicing in Dyfed?
Our guide starts from £145 excluding VAT (per visit, first door), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £174 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Dyfed, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.
Can you service doors in Dyfed outside opening hours?
Visits early in the morning, in the evening or at weekends can often be arranged where the building needs it, although they may be priced differently. Tell us your opening hours and busiest times when you book, and the visit price we agree will reflect the time slot.
Will servicing help with our insurer or landlord in Dyfed?
Many insurers and landlords ask for evidence that automatic doors are maintained. A written service report for each door, kept in a logbook or digital folder, is the usual way to show that. If they ask for a risk assessment against BS EN 16005, a safety inspection can be added.
How is the visit price set for work in Dyfed?
We agree the visit price with you in writing before an engineer attends. It is based on the type of door, the work requested and the location. If parts or further work are needed once the engineer has found the cause, those are quoted before they are done, so the cost never moves without your agreement.
What happens during a visit in Dyfed?
The engineer checks how the door is operating, diagnoses the fault or carries out the service, and tests the safety sensors and other functions before leaving. On a service visit that includes cleaning, adjustment and lubrication where needed. Anything that cannot be put right on the visit, or that needs parts, is explained and quoted before further work goes ahead.
Can a home in Dyfed get help paying for a door opener?
Possibly. In Wales a Disabled Facilities Grant of up to £36,000 can fund adaptations that make it easier to get in and out of a home. Grants are means-tested and must be approved by the council before work starts.
