Coverage across County Down

Not every part of County Down is easy to reach, and some sites need planning around access, parking or opening hours. We take that into account when arranging automatic door servicing, and the engineer, working under our management, arrives with what the job is likely to need. The towns below, 8 in all, each have their own page, but any address in the area can be covered.

What to think about for automatic door servicing in County Down

  • Exposed entrances collect grit, leaves and rain. Weather-facing doors benefit from extra attention to the floor guide, brush strips and sensor settings at each service.
  • Battery backup units wear out over time. Testing them at each service shows whether the door will still open or close safely in a power cut.
  • Doors on busy high streets in County Down can cycle hundreds of times a day. Heavy use wears belts, rollers and floor guides faster, so these doors usually need more frequent visits.
  • Keep the programme switch key and any operator access keys on site. Engineers need them to change modes and test the door properly during the visit.
  • Floors matter. Uneven, worn or newly laid floor finishes can affect floor guides and sensor detection, so mention any recent floor work before the service.

Standards and rules in Northern Ireland

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1993) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. How often a door is maintained should follow the manufacturer’s information and how heavily it is used.

No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend that a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer’s instructions and how heavily the door is used, and that someone on site carries out simple regular checks and keeps a record.

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

How it works

  1. Tell us what is happening. Describe the fault, or the service or inspection that is due, and send photos of the door and any label on the operator. Include the address in County Down and how much the site depends on the door.
  2. Visit price agreed in writing. We confirm the price of the visit in writing before an engineer attends. If the door can be priced from photos and its make and model, we say so at this stage.
  3. Engineer visit. A specialist engineer working under our management diagnoses the fault or carries out the service, then tests the operation of the door and its safety sensors before leaving the site.
  4. Findings and follow-up. You receive a written record of what was found and done. Any parts or further work needed are quoted in writing before they go ahead, and nothing is added without your agreement.

Automatic door servicing in County Down: questions

Do you service automatic doors in County Down?

Yes. Planned service visits in County Down are carried out by automatic door specialists who work under our management, with us as your contracting party. They service sliding, swing, folding and revolving doors from most makers. The cost of each visit is confirmed in writing before it is booked, and you receive a service report afterwards.

What price range should I expect for automatic door servicing in County Down?

Our guide starts from £145 excluding VAT (per visit, first door), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £174 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in County Down, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

Will servicing help with our insurer or landlord in County Down?

Many insurers and landlords ask for evidence that automatic doors are maintained. A written service report for each door, kept in a logbook or digital folder, is the usual way to show that. If they ask for a risk assessment against BS EN 16005, a safety inspection can be added.

What happens if the service in County Down finds a fault?

The engineer explains what they found and deals with small issues as part of the visit. Worn parts or longer repairs are quoted to you first and only carried out once you agree. The service report records the fault so it can be tracked at later visits.

Can visits in County Down be arranged outside working hours?

Yes, where the site needs it. Early-morning, evening and weekend visits can be arranged for shops, surgeries and offices that cannot lose their entrance during the day. Any difference in price for out-of-hours attendance is agreed in writing before the visit is booked, alongside the standard visit price.

What should I tell you when reporting a fault in County Down?

The address, the type of door, what it is doing or not doing, when the problem started and whether it is safe to use. A photo of the operator label showing the make, and a short video of the fault, help a great deal. With that, we can agree the visit price in writing and send an engineer with the right parts where possible.

Can a home in County Down get help paying for a door opener?

Possibly. In Northern Ireland Disabled Facilities Grants of up to £25,000 are run through the Housing Executive and are normally based on an occupational therapist’s recommendation, so raise a powered door opener at that assessment.
