What to think about for automatic door servicing in Argyll and Bute
- Floors matter. Uneven, worn or newly laid floor finishes can affect floor guides and sensor detection, so mention any recent floor work before the service.
- Business parks and retail parks in Argyll and Bute may have doors owned by the landlord and doors leased with the unit. Check who is responsible for servicing each door before booking.
- Keep the programme switch key and any operator access keys on site. Engineers need them to change modes and test the door properly during the visit.
- A logbook kept near the door, or a shared digital folder, makes it simple to show service history in Argyll and Bute when an insurer, landlord or inspector asks for it.
- Battery backup units wear out over time. Testing them at each service shows whether the door will still open or close safely in a power cut.

Standards and rules in Scotland
Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.
No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend that a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer’s instructions and how heavily the door is used, and that someone on site carries out simple regular checks and keeps a record.
BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.
How it works
- Report the fault or service. Let us know whether the door has failed, is behaving oddly or is simply due a service or safety inspection. A short video of the problem helps the engineer prepare for the visit.
- Agree the price first. Before anyone travels to Argyll and Bute, the visit price is set out in writing. It is based on the door type, the work requested and the location, so you know the cost in advance.
- Diagnose, repair, test. On site, the engineer finds the cause and puts it right where the parts are to hand, or completes the planned service. Sensors, safety functions and emergency behaviour are checked before the door returns to use.
- Paperwork and next steps. A written record of the visit is left with you or sent afterwards. If parts must be ordered or more work is advisable, it is quoted separately and only goes ahead once you accept.
Keep your maintenance records complete. Arrange planned visits for automatic doors in Argyll and Bute, each one priced in advance and documented afterwards.
Automatic door servicing in Argyll and Bute: questions
Do you service revolving and folding doors in Argyll and Bute?
Yes, as well as sliding and swing doors. Revolving and folding doors have more moving parts and extra safety devices, so their services take longer and are priced accordingly. The checklist used for each door type is set out in its service report.
What do you charge for automatic door servicing in Argyll and Bute?
Our guide starts from £145 excluding VAT (per visit, first door), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £174 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Argyll and Bute, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.
What happens if the service in Argyll and Bute finds a fault?
The engineer explains what they found and deals with small issues as part of the visit. Worn parts or longer repairs are quoted to you first and only carried out once you agree. The service report records the fault so it can be tracked at later visits.
Do you service automatic doors in Argyll and Bute?
Yes. Planned service visits in Argyll and Bute are carried out by automatic door specialists who work under our management, with us as your contracting party. They service sliding, swing, folding and revolving doors from most makers. The cost of each visit is confirmed in writing before it is booked, and you receive a service report afterwards.
What should I tell you when reporting a fault in Argyll and Bute?
The address, the type of door, what it is doing or not doing, when the problem started and whether it is safe to use. A photo of the operator label showing the make, and a short video of the fault, help a great deal. With that, we can agree the visit price in writing and send an engineer with the right parts where possible.
Do you cover island addresses for automatic door servicing in Scotland?
Yes, by arrangement. For island addresses, travel is included in the agreed visit price, and visits are planned around ferry timings. Because a missing part can mean another crossing, photos and door details sent in advance help the engineer bring what is likely to be needed on the first trip.
Can a home in Argyll and Bute get help paying for a door opener?
Scotland does not have Disabled Facilities Grants. Councils help through their Scheme of Assistance, which can include a grant for essential permanent adaptations. Ask your council whether a powered door opener could be included.
