What to think about for automatic door repairs in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde

  • Shopping parades and business parks in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde can have restricted parking or loading. Tell us where an engineer can park and unload tools when you book the visit.
  • Doors knocked by trolleys, pushchairs or deliveries often go out of line. Repeated impacts damage rollers and floor guides, so it helps to know roughly when the fault first appeared.
  • Older shopfronts in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde may have automatic doors with discontinued drive units. Ask whether parts are still available before agreeing to a large repair, as a new operator may be better value.
  • Rule out the simple things. Check whether the door's isolator or fused spur has been switched off, and whether other equipment on the same circuit has also stopped working.
  • Busy high street shops in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde lose trade quickly when the entrance fails. Keep the programme switch key where staff can find it, so the door can be set to a safe mode while you wait.

Standards and rules in Scotland

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.

No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend that a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer’s instructions and how heavily the door is used, and that someone on site carries out simple regular checks and keeps a record.

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

How it works

  1. Report the fault or service. Let us know whether the door has failed, is behaving oddly or is simply due a service or safety inspection. A short video of the problem helps the engineer prepare for the visit.
  2. Agree the price first. Before anyone travels to Renfrewshire and Inverclyde, the visit price is set out in writing. It is based on the door type, the work requested and the location, so you know the cost in advance.
  3. Diagnose, repair, test. On site, the engineer finds the cause and puts it right where the parts are to hand, or completes the planned service. Sensors, safety functions and emergency behaviour are checked before the door returns to use.
  4. Paperwork and next steps. A written record of the visit is left with you or sent afterwards. If parts must be ordered or more work is advisable, it is quoted separately and only goes ahead once you accept.

Send us a photo of the faulty door and its operator label in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde. We will confirm the visit price in writing and offer the earliest engineer visit available.

Automatic door repairs in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde: questions

How soon can an engineer get to my door in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde?

That depends on engineer availability around Renfrewshire and Inverclyde when you contact us, so we do not promise a time. Tell us whether the door is stuck open, stuck shut or unsafe, and we will tell you the earliest visit we can offer. Meanwhile, set the door to a safe mode and keep people away from the leaves.

Can you give me a price for automatic door repairs in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde?

Our guide starts from £95 excluding VAT (visit including the first hour), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £114 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

Do you keep records of repairs for buildings in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde?

Yes. Each visit produces a written report of the fault found, the work done and any parts fitted or recommended. Facilities teams can keep these with the door's service records, which helps show the door is being maintained and makes repeat faults easier to trace.

Do you repair automatic doors in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde?

Yes. We take the booking, agree the price and manage the job, and the visit in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde is made by a specialist automatic door engineer working under our management. The engineers we send work on sliding, swing, folding and revolving doors from most makers, including doors we did not install. The visit price is confirmed with you in writing before the engineer is booked.

How is the visit price set for work in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde?

We agree the visit price with you in writing before an engineer attends. It is based on the type of door, the work requested and the location. If parts or further work are needed once the engineer has found the cause, those are quoted before they are done, so the cost never moves without your agreement.

How often should automatic doors in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde be serviced?

No law sets a fixed interval. We recommend a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer's instructions and how heavily the door is used; busy doors are often serviced more often. Site staff should also carry out simple regular checks and keep a record of them.

Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde?

The person responsible for fire safety under the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 for those premises. Scottish guidance allows automatic doors on escape routes only where they fail safely to outward opening or have a monitored fail-safe system that opens them on power failure, sensor failure and fire alarm.
