Automatic door repairs in the Glasgow area

Noisy, slow or opening by itself? Those are common automatic door faults in the Glasgow area, and most have a clear cause. Engineers test the sensors, running gear, drive and power supply, then explain what is wrong and what it will cost to put right.

Coverage across the Glasgow area

Our coverage of the Glasgow area is not tied to a depot or a showroom. Engineers who carry out automatic door repairs for us travel to each site, so a farm shop down a country lane goes through the same process as a city-centre office. Every job is priced in writing before work starts, and the town list below currently numbers 5.

Towns listed in the Glasgow area: Glasgow, Newton Mearns, Barrhead, Giffnock, Clarkston.

What to think about for automatic door repairs in the Glasgow area

  • Older shopfronts in the Glasgow area may have automatic doors with discontinued drive units. Ask whether parts are still available before agreeing to a large repair, as a new operator may be better value.
  • A door with battery backup may show a fault, or fail to open in a power cut, when its battery is worn out. Batteries are a routine replacement part rather than a major repair.
  • Busy high street shops in the Glasgow area lose trade quickly when the entrance fails. Keep the programme switch key where staff can find it, so the door can be set to a safe mode while you wait.
  • Doors knocked by trolleys, pushchairs or deliveries often go out of line. Repeated impacts damage rollers and floor guides, so it helps to know roughly when the fault first appeared.
  • Leisure centres, schools and public buildings in the Glasgow area may need a contractor induction or permit before work starts. Send any site rules with your booking so the visit can go ahead first time.

Standards and rules in Scotland

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.

No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend that a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer’s instructions and how heavily the door is used, and that someone on site carries out simple regular checks and keeps a record.

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

How it works

  1. Make contact. Phone, email or use the form. Tell us the type of door, what it is doing and whether it is safe to use, so the right visit for automatic door repairs can be planned.
  2. Written visit price. The cost of attending is agreed in writing before the visit is booked. For a planned service or inspection, the price per door and what each visit includes are set out at the same time.
  3. On-site work. The engineer, working under our management, checks the door from end to end, deals with the fault or the service, and tests every safety function and sensor setting before signing the door off.
  4. Report and quote. You receive a report of the findings. Where a repair, part or upgrade is recommended, it is quoted in writing so you can decide, and the door is left in a safe state if it cannot be used.

Get your entrance working again. Describe the fault at your premises in the Glasgow area and we will tell you what the visit costs and when an engineer can attend.

Automatic door repairs in the Glasgow area: questions

Do engineers carry spare parts for doors in the Glasgow area?

Engineers carry common parts such as sensors, belts and some rollers. Controllers, motors and parts for less common doors are ordered once the fault is confirmed, and delivery is typically 1 to 3 weeks. Knowing the make and model in advance improves the chance of a repair during the first visit.

Is there a guide price for automatic door repairs in the Glasgow area?

Our guide starts from £95 excluding VAT (visit including the first hour), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £114 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in the Glasgow area, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

Can you tell me the cost before visiting my premises in the Glasgow area?

We always confirm the visit price before attending. For some faults, photos of the door and the operator label let us price the repair itself in advance. Where the cause needs testing on site, parts and extra work are quoted after diagnosis and only go ahead if you agree.

How soon can an engineer get to my door in the Glasgow area?

That depends on engineer availability around the Glasgow area when you contact us, so we do not promise a time. Tell us whether the door is stuck open, stuck shut or unsafe, and we will tell you the earliest visit we can offer. Meanwhile, set the door to a safe mode and keep people away from the leaves.

Can visits in the Glasgow area be arranged outside working hours?

Yes, where the site needs it. Early-morning, evening and weekend visits can be arranged for shops, surgeries and offices that cannot lose their entrance during the day. Any difference in price for out-of-hours attendance is agreed in writing before the visit is booked, alongside the standard visit price.

Can you price a repair in the Glasgow area from photos?

Sometimes. Clear photos of the door, the operator cover and any label showing the make and model, plus a description of what the door is doing, can let us price a likely repair before a visit. Where the cause is not obvious, we agree a diagnostic visit price in writing first and quote the repair afterwards.

Do businesses in the Glasgow area have to fit automatic doors?

No law requires automatic doors everywhere. Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and Scottish guidance says powered doors improve accessibility at entrances. An automatic door is often the practical answer.
